Forget Freelancer, EVE is the new Elite. Unparalleled scope to interact, explore and trade - Stylish and detailed graphics - Powerful guild structure - Absolutely vast game world.

Eve: The Second Genesis is the logical step for the MMORPG genre. It is the step the genre was bound to take sooner or later and I am extremely happy it was Iceland based developer CCP that took that step. They have now set the bar for the genre, a standard that is likely to hold at least as long as Ian Bells and David Brabens Elite.

An incredibly slick game... the closest to the Elite idea.

GameOgre: 'Non-Fantasy MMORPG Of the year'

JUEGAENRED: 'Best Sci-fi Game of 2007'

MMORPG: 'Most Improved Game of 2007'

MMORPG: 'Best Sci-fi Game of 2007'

MMORPG: 'Best Overall Game of 2007'

MMORPG: 'Favorite Game of 2006'

Perhaps not surprisingly, EVE Online completes its sweep of the categories for which it was nominated as it picks up our final award for Favorite overall game. Its familiar competition, World of Warcraft (33%), picked up less than half the number of votes that our winner, EVE (67%), managed to grab.

EVE Online’s fan base showed this year that they support their game not only with their subscription dollars and hours of time, but also in our awards. With the recent announcement that CCP has merged with PnP powerhouse White Wolf, as well as the addition of recent and upcoming expansions, this sci-fi game doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.
MMORPG: 'Reader's Choice Favorite Graphics'

CCP’s sandbox sci-fi game, EVE Online ran away with the voting in this category for the second year in a row. Capturing a whopping 61% of the 4983 votes cast in this category, EVE left the competition, EverQuest II (23%) and World of Warcraft ( 15%) in the pixilated dust.

With vote power like that, and screenshots looking the way that they do, it's tough to argue that EVE doesn't deserve this award.
MMORPG: 'Reader's Choice Favorite Story'

The Best Story Award in our 2006 Reader’s Choice Awards marks the fourth consecutive award for EVE Online this year. With 51.8% of the vote, EVE defeated its two rivals World of Warcraft (24.5%) and last year’s winner Ryzom (23.7%).

EVE’s strengths in this category include their live events, missions, player-formed alliances and more as the game encourages its players to become active participants in the unfolding story of the EVE universe.
MMORPG: 'Reader's Choice Favorite PvP'

The apparently unstoppable juggernaut that is EVE Online takes home another award from our members. This time, the game is being recognized for its excellent Player vs. Player experience.
MMORPG: 'Reader's choice favorite PVE 2006'

In a tight race, last year’s winner World of Warcraft (47.2%) lost its title to EVE Online (52.8%). While EVE may have been seen as a bit of a dark horse going in this category (not even garnering a nomination last year ), its strong showing in the nominations round continued throughout the final voting phase and lands EVE with its second Reader’s Choice Award of 2006.

MMORPG.COM Readers Choice Awards 2005: 'Favorite Game'

No big shock here. The big winners today are the guys in Iceland behind EVE Online. They took this category despite stiff competition and record subscriber numbers from World of WarCraft. The game - which has also long been our top user rated MMORPG at 8.4 out of 10 - continues to strike a cord and set new concurrent users records since its launch in 2003.

It won best graphics. It won best company. It won best PvP. How could it not win best game? I believe the awards speak for themselves when it comes to this title.

EVE took the category with 40% of the total vote. Blizzard's World of WarCraft made it interesting as they picked up 31% in this two horse race. Guild Wars chimed in with 13%, City of Heroes / Villains nabbed 8% and Dark Age of Camelot rounded out the field with 5%.

MMORPG.COM Readers Choice Awards 2005: 'Best PVP'

We did not originally nominate them, but the fans wrote to us on mass and thus EVE Online went up for it in a special one-week run off. This vote demonstrated we were clearly mistaken with our original nominates as EVE Online nailed down 55% of the total vote in a three-game category.

What else is there to say about EVE? They've already picked up three awards, and they were only originally nominated for two of the categories we've handed out so far. Fans of the cite massive armada battles, pirate-hunting and the game's fluid PvP-zone system as the reasons it is a cut above the rest.

Guild Wars and Dark Age of Camelot emerged from the original category, which also included City of Heroes / Villains, Lineage II and Shadowbane. The later three did not garner enough votes to continue on, while DAoC and Guild Wars both tied at 22% in the finals.

MMORPG.COM Readers Choice Awards 2005: 'Best Graphics'

This jaw-dropping MMORPG's win is made even more astounding by the fact that the game launched in 2003. Despite its age, no one - in the eyes of our readers - has come close to matching the visual beauty of EVE Online's spaceships, stars, UI and overall visual appeal.

EVE Online places all players in a single universe to harvest materials, fight pirates, complete missions and generally explore their picturesque universe. Clearly, the reader's of MMORPG.com appreciate the effort they put forth as this win makes EVE two for two so far in the awards. The game, which was up for four of seven possible awards, has a chance to be the most decorated MMORPG this year.

In this category, EVE managed to take just over half the vote. World of WarCraft, based off its immense popularity and wonderful art-direction, placed second with 19%. EverQuest II's technical excellence earned them 15%, while Lineage II and Star Wars Galaxies garnered nine and four percent respectively.

MMORPG.COM Readers Choice Awards 2005: 'Favorite Company'

The Icelandic-MMO company got off to a good start by taking favorite company in what some might consider a surprise. The developer's of EVE Online have long established themselves a driven and focused company who deals well with their fans and the media. The popularity of their flagship title EVE Online also didn't hurt their chances.

EVE Online is a space-set sci-fi MMORPG set in a future where humans colonized other galaxies through a wormhole. Years later the wormhole collapsed and the citizens of the EVE universe were left severed forever from their home galaxy. Civilizations collapsed and were rebuilt at the time players enter the game.

CCP Games faced stiff competition from the likes of Blizzard, Crytpic, Mythic and Turbine, but came away with a strong 44% of the overall vote from our readers. The strong showing is a bit of a surprise when the popularity of Blizzard's World of WarCraft is taken into account, but given EVE Online has long been the top hyped game on our site, the surprise is minimal.

PC Gamer Sweden: Best Online RPG 2003

Long we waited, but never did our fascination for the phenomenon EVE die. EVE gave us a huge universe and endless possibilities to interact with other human players. It is an MMORPG at the best, with graphics that still excel. It's developers, CCP, has fostered it's product well since release. The servers are stable and the game's community is very much alive. The sheer size and all-encompassing quality makes EVE deserving of the title as the best MMORPG of the year.....

SuperPlay GULDPIXELN 2003: Online Game of the year

It turned out to be an Icelandic company that would show the world how a MMORPG is supposed to be. EVE Online is an epic journey through the universe and sets an example for other game developers.

2003 Gamespy Best Graphics

....one thing everybody can agree on is that the game is just jaw-droppingly beautiful. Space in EVE Online is stunning -- filled with colored nebulae and planets surrounded by rings of debris. Space stations and ships look incredibly cool, but none of that holds a candle to the avatar creation system....

Game Revolution 2003 Editor's Choice Awards!

In a relatively uninspired year for massively multiplayer gaming, Eve stands out as the biggest little game you never played. Massive scope and some of the prettiest graphics anywhere turned us into space pirates overnight, but man, it wasn't easy. Arrr!
