They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but one symbol can define an Empire and cause a rift between two peoples.

"Signs of Faith" is a new EVE Chronicle written by CCP Greyscale.

Here's an image of all the symbols referenced in the Chronicle:

Please visit your user settings to re-enable images.

As you can see, there is no sixth image ;)

Fascinating: so we have the three symbols shown in the painting, plus the Khanid logo (fourth), and that fifth symbol about which the instructor speaks very precisely and carefully so as not to disturb the doctrinal authority represented by the glances to the corner of the room.

So what permutation results in the sixth symbol? A 180-degree rotation of the first unbroken symbol, so that man is above god (and thus very upsetting to the Theology Council)? Or perhaps overlaying the man symbol over the god symbol, rather than god on top of man as in the current Amarr symbol?

Also, I hope this signals the start of a series including other logos: Minmatar, Gallente, Caldari, Ammatar, Thukker, other secondary factions...

I would interpret that to mean the 6th symbol: man has become god. Assuming Casiella is correct in the design of the 6th symbol

Lol, the hints =P

So the sixth symbol is "man is god" or "man is above god".

And the Amarr Empress has a monster in her head that controls her.

Enheduanni hints. =P

Don't forget the ever popular "man creates God". :) Interesting chronicle, can't wait to see where this leads.

EDIT-Maybe a Goddess was unintentionally created in Empress Jamyl.

I assume the second symbol on the illustration is supposed to be "man and god separated, with god above". I.e. the god part is the one that's at the bottom in the first picture (which is kinda weird but whatever).

Now, here are the empires' seals:
Please visit your user settings to re-enable images.

The Khanid one is upside-down (which i guess is what he means by "inverted"), but the "god part" is still "above the man" (overlaid on top of it at least, it's hard to say that one is above the other since they're both at about the same level). Not sure how this means that Khanid II has put himself above the law of god, i guess the fact that it's upside-down means that he's taking the concept and putting it on its head. I guess it also means that this bit is somewhat of a retcon.

The fifth symbol i assume looks like the second one upside down, with "man" above ("in space") and god below (on the planets).

The sixth symbol looks like a non-upside-down egg.

add
Also, classroom discipline feels a bit too liberal for a theology lesson of an empire so hellbent on its religion. Even contemporary catholic schools probably have a stricter classroom discipline. But then i have never attended a catholic school...

Well, you're not alone. Calling capsuleers gods or at least demigods has been done to death already. The whole chronicle is just a shaggy dog story that sets up the ground for a sort of symbolic pun in the end (except it's lamshaded miles ahead when the words "man", "becomes", "god" and "egg" are mentioned in the same sentence).

My thought was that the sixth symbol omitted the God part entirely...just a horizontal crescent.

If you had attended a Catholic school you'd be aware of the fact that discipline is imposed by God, not the teacher. But then, it depends on whether the teacher is a secular agent in a religous school, or a dyed-in-the-wool Catholic who views it as their God-given vocation to teach these upstarts about the real world ;)

Modern Catholicism is about encouraging people to ask (the right) questions. When they ask (the right) questions you can give them (the right) answers, showing how God has his fingers in every pie. Much as was done in this chronicle - especially when you make it look like the students are getting access to privileged information, to reinforce the dogmatic belief that it came from the teacher, therefore it's right.

For what it's worth, my instinct is that the non-existent sixth symbol would represent Man transcending God (rather than Man becoming God, or man usurping God).

Hokey religion and ancient dogmas are no match for an up-to-date medical clone, kid.

Please note the arabic script below the Khanid symbol in the image as well.

I can read arabic, and although hard to read, can't make anything intelligible out of it. So I'm presuming it's just artistic stylisation.

----

In Latin Letters as well as I can make out. There are no 'dot' designators, so I have to guess on a couple letters. Also, please remember arabic script doesn't designate "syllables" as letters, so the syllables have to be guessed.

Yeah I'm confused as to which parts of which arcs were flipped/broke which arcs...

I definitely need a pic after these comments.

I assumed the 2nd image was downward arc = planets/empire/Manunkind
The upward curved arc = God attempting control/communication.

But then the flipping started.Confused

I also congratulate the guy who said upside down egg, capsuleers leaving the planets for "Godhood". 2001: A Space Odyssey ending of win.

And was a Jamyl representative there to make sure he didn't go to a sixth symbol?! Awesome. This is the Amarrian version of the Gallente teacher chron. Can we get a Jovian one too?

I couldn't quite figure out where the school was located...
Judging by the respect the teacher gave emperor Khanid, and the fact that everyone spoke mostly of him, I'd guess they were in the Khanid kingdom, but seeing as everyone here thinks they were in the Amarr empire, I could be wrong...

I'm also one of the people thinking that if there was a sixth symbol, it would depict a capsule(" looks a bit like an upside-down egg"), since it sorta looks like an egg.

The Amarr may be prophetic :O

I understand your view on the Ammar being *hellbent* oppressive but your assumption about catholic class room disciplin is wrong.
< Experienced first hand

I would have thought creationists are the hellbent opinionists your after. Even then, Religious types will usualy prefer to use carisma to drag people in, oppressive religions are kinda hard to find these days.

My view on the whole symbolism:
The first symbol means the first man yes? so turning it upside down would simply mean God? That would be a big assumption; alternatively turning symbols upside down in this instance seems to change the interpretation not necessarily the meaning so maybe it would mean the first woman?

If this is the case i would go for another symbol to be the sixth the first symbol is too basic, how about going for a modified first symbol, an egg shape with another circle to represent god to be part of it so you don’t end up with man but rather man-god or God-man, a hybrid with the body of man but the power of a god.

Makes me think of that symbol we see on our hud all the time, the Pod symbol.

Alternatively it could be to do with the Angel Cartel symbol which looks kind of Amarr esqu, but I thought they were Minmitar cross Gallente and it’s the bloodraiders that are Minmitar cross Amarr and their Symbol is nothing related.

Lots to think
