I am new to the game and chose Gallente Scientist. What can I do with this class and what do I train? I cannot find guides for this, any links would help.

Unlike most mmorpg's out there, there are no 'classes' in eve. My suggestion is that you read through the Eve New Citizens Q&A forum.

baiscally create a custom class and make sure you have high intel and memory and low charisma.

That way you'll be better suited to training the science skills, That said in eve you can alter your profession as you go along, the starting character only effects what skills you get given for free, you can buy more as time progresses.

The starter charachter also affects your starting stats which are inportant for a science charachter.
You need high Mem and Int for the Science tree and the Industry tree.

In terms of what a pure science charachter can do, I would not recomend it for your main or first charachter until you have experienced a bit of what eve is like, say about a month.

Pure Science builds tend to spend a lot of time in stations as their skills for R&D, Science and Industry take up a lot of training time (look at Dr Caymus)and their main interests do not revolve around combat. The other main downside of playing a Science charachter at the moment is lab costs. If you can even find a free lab slot, you need to be generating about 2.5 mil per lab slot every 5 days to cover the rent. And that 2.5 mil is increasing by 5% a week (i think it is 5% a week).
For established charachters this is not a problem, but for new charachters it is a huge cash drain.

R&D is a good thing to go into with science skills, although there is a bit of a choke up if you're looking for labslots at the moment. The best thing to do is decide where you want to be in eve, and what you want to do, then go from there, training a skills pattern to mirror your chosen career.

It's also important to train up those learning skills too, as this'll reduce your training times massively when you come to training the higher levels of skills.

If you want to maximize your training, it's probably best to make a character with a high perception and a slightly lower intelligence. From there on mem and will are equally important (unimportant) and charisma is pretty much useless even if you specialize in trading and social.

No matter your chosen career path, except maybe for the pure builder/scientist (which is only a good idea on second characters or for people who are in since day 1 and are really well established), perception will be the tree you'll be training the most points in.

For combat characters this is obvious, but for miners do't forget both the barge and the industrial skills have perception as primary and the freighther will probably also have that. Perception is also secondary on Nav and drones.

Perception = god. I still regret my base perception of 4...

Intelligence will be next, since it's primary on every support skill out there and secondary on industry. Heck, it's even primary on Science (wtf?).

So if you're under 2 weeks old and have not got a really high perception and a really good intelligence, just make a new charcacter. You'll win out in no time. (Go Caldari Civire with 3 int and 2 per).

Alternatively there is the balanced attribute route, which can be done with either Minmatar brutor and vanilla Gallente. You start with all stats equal, except charisma which is one point lower. It's a good build for all-rounders, I guess.

All great input and thanks for the help. I've decided to use the built in science to use this character as a mining ore pilot. Very close already to using it (skill wise, not time wise), but have an Iteron II now (he is Gallente) I have Int = 12, Perc = 8 and Mem = 8. Will continue to work on perc based on above. I have multiple accounts so I have a fighter/miner in a cruiser as well.

I pretty much totally agree with what Shayla said, with the exception of priority of Perception and Intelligence. The only thing Perception will help speed is your ship handling and weaponry skills, whilst very important, as a Scientist, high intelligence is paramount. At some point, you will also move into industry, it's inevitable. A great majority of these skills depend upon Int and Mem. Also, the Electronics and Engineering skill sets depend on Int. So far that I have found, once a scientist gets bored with research, the best secondary professions are mining and/or EW pvp.

Oh, and pray hard for some CCP/Gallente lovin.

Edit: It is true, there are a great number more skill points that can be earned through percection than Intelligence, but most people will only train a faction of those, as most tend to be specialization skills. Such as say the Battleships skills, its a rare occasion that someone will train multiple BS skills to lvl5, same with weaponry, chances are, someone will train solely in laser specializations and never touch hybrids at all, for example. Where as with the Intelligence based skills, you will pretty much want ALL of them sooner than you will ever want ALL of the Perc based skills. They are, in general, handier across the board.

If this is the case, which it is, why bother with making the research facilities so outragiously priced? You end up with the exact same result as before, The original players are the only ones who end up with the labs.

Just a question I've been wondering for the last 4 or so weeks now.

Train up the mark 5, train science 5, metalurgy 5, industry 5 and research 5 for starters (after training all learning skills to 4 or 5). Then learn caldari ships to do missions in, caracal, ferox and the raven are your friends. Get 5-6 level 4 research agents after a omg ton of missions. Finally begin to "research" T2 BPOs and 6 months to a year later you will probably have 1 nice BPO to either produce and sell copies of or actually produce the T2 item, or sell it on eve-online.com forums in the sell area for 400m+ isk, sometimes billions.

That's what being a scientist basically is.
