Is there an up to date list of ore types by region and security level, so that I can find out what ore types should be in my region in a particular system without actually surveying there? - Thanks Kail |

Edited by: Karl Borhman on 14/10/2005 19:57:04 I am by no means a self-proclaimed expert on the subject, but I have done a fair bit of virtual travel and know much about what ore you can expect to find where.
In general, here's a few basic rules to remember:
1) The lower the security rating of the system the better the quality of the ore.
2) Ore found in higher security status systems (1.0, 0.9) can generally be found in systems with lower security ratings (0.1,0.2), but not vice versa. On occassion the only variance from ore found in 1.0 to 0.8 security status for example is that you'll tend to run into the higher yield types. While it would be unusual to see Dense Veld in 1.0, its very common in systems 0.6-0.0
3) Each region tends to have at least one mineral derived from ore that it's short on. For example, in Fade, Isogen is a bit harder to come by, since there is no omber and little to any hedbergite.
That being said, I think what I'm about to post (although not an exhaustive list) might be more of what you're after:
(C) Commonly found, (UC) Uncommonly found
1.0 SS - Veld (C), Scord (C,UC) 0.9 SS - Veld(C), Scord(C), Plagioclaise (UC) 0.8 SS - Veld, Scord, Plagio all (C) variance on yields is greater. 0.7 SS - Veld, Scord, Plagio (C), Variances on these ores for higher yield also more common. On occassion you see something a bit more rare like, kernite, omber or pyrox. 0.6 SS - ores from 0.7+, and in addition better versions of kernite, omber, pyrox, etc. 0.5 SS - ores from 0.6+, in addition much higher yields of omber, pyrox, kernite, etc. Rare on occasion, Jaspet. 0.4 SS - ores 0.5+, and ores like Jaspet common. 0.3 SS - 0.4+ ores and better yield Jaspet. On occasion rares like hemorphite or hedbergite. 0.2 SS - 0.3+ ores, and common distributions of low end hemo or hed - but not usually both. 0.1 SS - 0.2+ ores, with mixed hemo/hed 0.0 any and all ore types. The best quality hemo and hedbergite lays around like a common street walker. The best Jaspet becomes a trash ore to be neglected as a tertiary target for your strip miners.
Generally the further the number of jumps from an empire sector the better the quality of the ore. (Velds start looking like small planets out there)
Hope this helps. |

Thanks that was a pretty good list. Just remains for me to do a quick survey of my .4-.2 systems. - Kail |

Iīve seen systems in 0.0 which donīt even have jaspet. I think it all depends on the True sec rating. Kanuo |

It does and it doesn't. True sec status will give you an idea of where the really nice ore is. For example, you won't find arkonor in a true 0.0 system. But just because a system is 0.0 or -1.0 does not mean you'll find Jaspet there. Same as every -0.7 to -1.0 system doesn't necessarily have mercoxit, arkonor or crokite. Ores are based on sec status, as well as being regional. For example, around the Curse area (Detorid, Great Wildland, Cache) you'll find arkonor and bistot. But you won't find any crokite. Even worse, I don't know if any ore around there gives mexallon at all, so it's always in high demand. Syndicate has loads of crokite, but no arkonor or bistot. Then you get places like Fountain that have fields full of arkonor, bistot, crokite and mercoxit. But yeah. When you go to places like that, veld roids are huge and things like hemorphite are ignored as no-one ever mines them. Why would you with fields full of much nicer ore to help yourself to.... In higher sec (0.5+) you'll find that isogen is expensive in Caldari space as all the kernite is in low sec (0.4-) whereas it's cheaper in Amarr space as it has plenty of Kernite in 0.5-0.7 systems. Mexallon is more plentiful in Caldari space as it has lots of plagioclase in high sec, whereas I don't think Amarr space has this type of roid at all. |

Edited by: Butter Dog on 14/10/2005 12:38:40 Edited by: Butter Dog on 14/10/2005 12:37:39 The only thing I would add to that excellent little guide, is that in 0.7 and below, all types of Kernite and Omber are common (depending on region) - the rocks are a little smaller though. But you can still get all types of each ore (ie Fiery, Luminous and 'Standard' Kernite, and Golden, Silvery and 'Standard' Omber).
Same with Jaspet in 0.4, and Hed/Hem in 0.2 - its just that the rocks are smaller. I guess there may be a higher percentage of higher quality rocks in lower sec, but if there is, its not particularly noticable. They're just bigger.
Oh, and with current market prices for Isogen, Kernite and Omber are both much more profitable than Jaspet (4m+ per jetcan for Kernite and Omber, as opposed to 3.5m for Jaspet, post-refining).
Therefore there is currently no reason to mine in 0.4, at least from a profit perspective. Hed/Hem are 5m and 6m ISK respectively, per jetcan, which may make the trip to 0.2 more worth the effort.
The real fun starts with Gniess in 0.0 - currently 9m ISK per jetcan at current Jita market prices. And then there is Crokite at 18m ISK per jetcan... nice if you can find it ;)
