I've recently come across a few threads discussing a Windows Mobile client for Eve. I've got a few questions: 1) Is this in fact true? 2) If a PDA client is being developed, what are the system requirments? 3) How do I sign up to beta test it? TY, Cryptologic |

yes, the eve mobile is a real project. it's not really in a public testing stage yet and i don't really have much information regarding it atm. but if you look here you will see there is a job opening for someone to develop and manage the project |

Sharkbait,
Is there someone @ CCP we can email if we're intereted in discussing ideas for other out-of-game systems that may interface with the API used by the Mobile client? |

I've had Eve working from my PDA (Orange SPV M5000 / XDA Exec / i-Mate Jasjar) using terminal services to connect to my desktop - I'm very happy to alpha/beta test anything as I already use Windows Mobile 5 for software development.
glad it's at least under consideration! :) |

I think there is plenty of people willing to do test on this. As I know ?I'm picking up next month a new released PDA with mobile 5 on. And since I'm working on the road I'll be well up to testing all over the UK!!
So sign me up (if there is a list) |

I attempted to run Eve via the remote desktop, but I guess eve is too high in resolution to run on it. I'm not very experienced with the remote desktop, so I'll have to see. |

I was thinking the same thing, but maybe EVE Mobile is more like a small EVE client on which you can buy/sell stuff, train skills, talk to corpmembers etc etc, without all the 3D stuff. Atleast i hope it is, cuz i doubt a full eve client would run on my PDA :P (MDA vario aka qtek 9100 aka htc wizard) |

Exactly. The posts regarding Eve-Mobile indicate it will be a specialized client for accessing in-station resources: chat, eve-mail, trade, skills, etc. It will give you your lunch-time fix of Eve when your boss is hovering around your cube, pestering you for those TPS reports. |

firstly, the Jasjar can be clocked to about 700mhz. secondly you need to have a server on a static ip and a BIG PIPE w/ your Jasjar having been patched to 11g wireless w/ the reg hack. then set your server desktop to run eve and try it locally, then connect to that session via T/S w/ 256 colours max to make it playable. at least you can evemail and trade from station :). missions? don't make me laugh. 3G/UMTS lags too much for it at the moment & 2.5/2G doesn't have the bandwidth
hope that helps the inquisitive ;) |

Edited by: Lukas Rox on 11/07/2006 07:28:44 Im certainly willing to participate in open beta test of EvE mobile, I have two units available for testing :) Secondly, there are in-space full 3D shooters (Anthelion, Star Wars, Flux Challenge - the last one is a Wipeout clone) running at 15 - 20 fps (without acceleration, so textures look pixelated like in old PC games) but theyre in fact working. I don't see a problem with simplified 3D gfx, for example to run indy and haul some goods. Fight might be a bit complicated, but you must admit that you dont use too much mouse like you would in FPS shooter - besides activating modules and choosing flight direction. You can do this with stylus without much problem. Last thing is remote access to a PC running EvE. Tried that, too slow, too uncomfortable. EvE runs in 1024x768 and best PDAs have 640x480 displays. As was stated before, 2/2.5 GSM is too slow to be actually useful for remote access.
Edit:
Besides, there is a Quake 3 Arena port for PDA. You must admit this game is very demanding compared to typical PDA's processing power ;]

Hi Shark
I am presently looking at a getting a new mobile/PDA, and this is a feature I am very much interested in. I have seen Windows Mobile being touted as the OS that this will run on, can you confirm that that will be the only one (at least from launch) or if there are any known system requirements?
Basically I am desperate to get a new mobile phone, my present one still monochrome - but dont want to go out and get one, only to find that it wont run this Eve PDA thing and that either I have to wait until my phone contract expires, or go out and spend a vast amount of money upgrading my hardware!
Hope that makes sense and that you can see where I am coming from.

ditto, the nokia e61 is officaly the best PDA in the UK, it would be silly to not have this on it. just wondering what does everybody want out of it? i would like it it would notify me when my skills had finished with a alarm of somfing, and then let me start something new. but being able to set trade runs on the go would SOOOOO rock |

I am enthused about this. Being a Treo user (and going to be picking up cingulars branded Treo 750 when it comes out this month) I can't wait to get some, if not all features of eve on the go. Even if the graphics were really dumbed down and I could still fly around that'd be sweet. I'll fly a 100 polygon count ship around in space as long as their was full functionality. Having this for just chat, in station character and resource management would be great, but to add a bit more even with crap graphics would be sweet. If you're not a treo user Become a Treonaut!Hit me up on the treo forums, I post as Malkantar. |
