I have windows installed in the D drive, installed Eve Premium Upgrade to the default location (D:/Program Files/CCP) and it deleted my boot.ini file from D:/Windows

Had to recreate my boot.ini as well on one PC where there is only one partition. Second PC running Vista with EVE on a separate HDD is fine.
To confirm if your boot.ini file is correct. Right-click on 'My computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery Settings. If it gives you an error, you need to recover it. Assuming you haven't done anything special with your PC, do the following:
Create a text document in the root directory.
Rename it boot.ini (Make sure to have extentions turned on)
Put this in the file:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect

To fix:
Open notepad.
copy in:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
with whatever os you have.
go to "save as" and make sure you change it to all files (otherwise you end up with boot.ini.txt) and save as c:\boot.ini.
go to start->run->cmd
enter "attrib +s +h +a boot.ini" when at the c:\ prompt
to verify, go to start->run->msconfig and there should be a tab for boot.ini
its also really hard not to be a little angry that THE BIGGEST EXPANSION EVER will make systems unbootable...... time to fire a QC tester! |

Thank you for posting this. It helped a lot of people out I think. Following the advice of that Microsoft article definitely helped.
I have no idea why anyone would name a file boot.ini since the client doesn't boot so it's a totally broken metaphor in the first place. Also it's a Windows convention to have a file called boot.ini thus causing immediate confusion and the possibility of an error in the first place. |

Yeah, I noticed this earliet today aswell, made a topic abou tit, but I think it went unnoticed due all the "Ooo, shiny" topic about.
You don't have anything to worry about if your windows installation is in the default directory, because windows will just use the default. The problem is for anyone who is using a non-standard boot. Pretty much anyone who does that should know how to fix it themselves, and most people won't have anything to worry about, but ya still gotta wonder what the hell they did to make the updated delete boot.ini |

Easier way to fix: right click MY COMPUTER click PROPERTIES click ADVANCED tab under STARTUP AND RECOVERY OPTIONS click SETTINGS if you are missing your boot.ini, it will pop up a dialog box complaining about a missing c:\boot.ini, if it doesn't you are fine, otherwise click OK click EDIT and allow it to create a new boot.ini and COPY AND PASTE this: Quote:

They forgot to specify that the boot.ini that needed to be deleted was the one in the ccp folder, rather than the default C: :V |

happened to me as well, I can't imagine the hell people who don't know much about computers are going through because of this. This happened to people on sisi and was reported? If so that's pretty messed up that this patch went live.
Confirming that EVE was on my C drive when Windows was installed on an E drive. |

...without repeating anything about non-standard boot.ini configurations -like Windows on a second partiton or HD-, just make sure you check your recreated .ini prior to rebooting using the afore mentioned MSCONFIG. Yep - these are the flaws that can really upset customers. Now hotline staff has to learn about MS recovery consoles and repair installation options as well  |

Make sure you uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)"-option, not just the "Hidden files and folders"-option.
I think a lot (all?) of you will see it there nice and safe... |

i would need to check that (can't now  ), however, the "new" boot ini file showed up fine w/o this unchecked. i was also was getting an error with the startup / recovery from my computer properties. and before i noticed it was gone, when i rebooted, i got an error message that stated: Originally by: DOS Error
