What be this here thread, with its bountiful cornucopia of posts?
I'm working on a top-down shooter (similar to the Raiden games), based on EVE Online. I want you to try it, formulate an opinion about it, and then tell me that opinion so I may improve my game. Also if there are any bugs/errors, let me know as well!

I've heard of these supposed "video games," what does yours offer me?
Good question grandpa! Allow me to expand on some of the game's features in an easy to digest (and pass) list!

Campaign Mode
Fight for one of the four empires! Currently this mode has 4 missions for the Gallente Federation. You are paid a set sum per mission plus a portion of the damage you cause, and you can use said money to purchase upgrades for subsequent missions.
Levels: 8
Ships: 6

Goonswarm Mode
Fight a never-ending swarm of Goons! You are beset on all sides by noobs in frigates and destroyers, and you must rely on your superior skills to survive as long as possible. Who knows though, your friends from BoB might be willing to offer you some assistance...
Levels: 1
Ships: 3

Experimental Mode
My eventual plan is to include over 35 playable ships, and to do that I need you to help me test them out and find out what works! Experimental mode exists so I (and you) can do exactly that!
Levels: 1
Ships: ~14

Tutorial
Learn to fly! This simple level takes you through the controls of the game and game mechanics.
Levels: 2
Ships: 1

Complete List of Playable Ships
Maulus, Tristan, Incursus, Vexor, Thorax, Celestis, Rifter, Vigil, Thrasher , Breacher, Slasher, Punisher, Executioner, Crucifier, Inquisitor

Complete List of Enemies
Kestrel, Condor, Merlin, Griffin, Atron, Ishkur, Tristan, Maulus, Breacher, Slasher, Rifter, Vigil, Executioner, Punisher, Crucifier, Inquisitor, Cormorant, Catalyst, Thrasher, Caracel, Thorax, Vexor, Celestis, Arbitrator, Maller, Omen, Badger 2, Blackbird, Ferox, Drake, Prophecy, Harbinger, Raven, Scorpion, Bhaalghorn

Special Thanks
Krats for contributing some awesome-looking sprites
Chribba for EVE-Files and everything else he does
Lance Fighter, Mothermoon, Nova Fox, and Blane Xero for their extensive testing and feeback efforts
CCP for making a game worthy of an unofficial arcade-style spinoff

How can I help, oh Great Forum Guru?
Things I need:
-Sounds for weapons, armor repair effects, explosions, etc.
-Testing!
-Historical Data
-Bump this thread from remote, inhospitable pages that aren't the front page
-Explosion animation effects
-Screen backgrounds - high-resolution trinity screenshots you think would work well for the game
-Ideas for new missions/game modes/general creative input

UPDATE!
I've had the current version done for almost a month but I was hesitant to release it simply because currently if there's a critical error I have no easy way to fix it, which makes me a sad panda. If you find and such bugs please let me know but understand that I won't be able to fix anything for at least a week.
From this point forward I'll be releasing two different version of the game - one with music and one without. The reasoning is that the music is stored uncompressed and as such increases the size of the game dramatically. I'm working on a solution to this but I have no idea if and when it'll be ready, so for now I'll give you the option to download the game with our without music.

Sorry couldn't help myself, on that. Space to fire, arrow keys to move, check upper right to see specific intsructions ( ctrl to repair your armor for instance ). D for drone deplying R for drone recalling ( those are the only two I saw offhand ).

Hope that helps. Neat game Tar.. oh.. you really should be allowed to go past the edges of the screen.

I'll take a look at the code, but I think you can actually. My biggest problem is that as you get into bigger ships your range increases likewise, so I need to have a means for you to shoot at stuff offscreen. I was going to try to make it into this release, but the code for it was bugged so it was only usefull if the enemy was off the top of the screen. That's near the top of my list for features intended for the next release.

If I was to destroy my reputation and get myself banned I could do better than this. Laughing

Anyway, I'm going to bed as I have work in the morning. Until then give it a try and let me know how you feel. Hell, flame away if you like, I'm used to it. Razz

Ok I feel stupid but what do I do to choose my race? I've gotten past it a few time but I have yet to figure out how I did (I just started mashing random keyboard buttons).

I think I figured it out actually.

Double click on Gallente. You end up choosing Caldari, but you can't double click Caldari to choose it... Confused

seems to me the only race u can pick is Gallente.....maybe a fix needs to be implemented to take care of this poor programming?

Fun game!

But I keep waiting for somebody to make a game that really IS eve online, but offline.

Can't be all that hard to make a game in which a looping animation shows your ship flying forward with a gascloud background, while you click an enemy (on your overview), then click several circles for modules to shoot it.

Repeatedly.

You could even get bounties, and a completion reward, and buy better ships.

Hell, you could go all out and have agent reputations and make an effective representation of what mission running in EVE online is like.

don't run it then?

i understand the internet is a popular source of keyloggers. you know what you have to do.

edit. alakazam is probably a troll, but why do people always demand the source code to things like this? Alakazam, what makes you think you could pick a well coded keylogger out of an arbitrary piece of code? chances are it's download the actual logger from elsewhere to avoid anti-virus scanning it as an email attachment etc.

would you then compile that code yourself, or just assume it's the same as the binary? or did you want somebody else to go theough the code, recompile, and make that available? what stops them from inserting a keylogger? etc.

get a decent piece of AV software (freebie ones like avast/avg are nowhere near as good as their cheapskate users make out) and firewall the app. if you're super paranoid run it on a virtual machine, but for the love of god, stop demanding source code for everythig anybody ever posts.

Couple of things i'd like to suggest (if you aren't already thinking of/adding in)

* Rotate the ship, (Make evading missiles more fun and gun boats not having the torubl of having to stay in front of something to shoot it)
* Make sure you give amarr some Oomph in this Laughing
* Nerf Gallente! ohwait?
