To get us started here is my own list. As you can see I am horribly ignorant of most things Northern!

Against All Authorities (AAA) - Good. Scary alliance led by scary Thug. Interesting to see how relationship with MC develops ;-)
Atrum Tempas Foedus (ATF) - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Band of Brothers (BoB) - Bad. Great leadership and pilots but at this stage the odds look insurmountable. May surprise...
Blackout - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Brutally Clever Empire - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Chaos Incarnate (CI) - Indifferent. Not sure of their political sitaution. Have doubts about PvP cababilities but certainly have large cap fleet and great industrial capabilities
Curatores Veritatis Alliance (CVA) - Good. Well I would say that
Dark Matter Coalition - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Destiny - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Enuma Elish - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Ethereal Dawn - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Ev0ke - Good. Capable pilots now bound together with MC KIA and Outbreak who have enough quality to strnegthen their grip over Period basis especially with BoB facing so many other threats
FANG Alliance - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Firmus Ixion (FIX) - Bad. Have a lot of respect and time for FIX but current situation looks bleak. Wouldn't bet against them holding together in some shape or form however.
Goonswarm - Good. Expect the swarm to go from strength to strength. What happens when BoB falls will be interesting.
Hydra Alliance - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Imperial Republic of the North (IRON) - Good. Solid core of pilots with decent capabilities
Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate (IAC) - Good. With Catch regained and long time enemies FIX on the ropes things look rosy for IAC but for how long?
Intrepid Crossing - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Ka-Tet - Good. Seem to have established themselves as THE alliance in the Drone Regions
KIA Alliance - Good. Primarily because of their link up with MC, KIA and Outbreak. Still have concerns about how all those people will get along long term though
Knights of the Southerncross - Indifferent. Not quite sure what to make of these guys. Some recent diplomatic blunders but an important part of space holding Coalition. Have they over extended themselves?
Kraftwerk - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Mercenary Coalition (MC) - Good. Nice to see MC finally assert its independence. Will be good to see how they cope with BoB's emnity long term but think with Seleene in charge they will be able to see any challenges through.
Morsus Mihi - Good. One of the better Northern alliances
Mostly Harmless - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Outbreak - Indifferent. Great pilots, scary fleets but not sure how they will relish being tied down
Paxton Federation - Good. CVA Holder alliance which gets better all the time. Expect them to strengthen their hold on their space and improve capabilities in 2008
Phoenix Allianz - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Pure - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Rare Faction - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Razor Alliance - Good. One of the more proactive Northern Alliances and as such have opportunities to expand
Red Alliance (RA) - Good. Well their own space is a long way from frontlines now and faces no real threat. A year of consolidation. Will they attract too many carebears though?
Roadkill - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge. Know they are a major Northern player but not quite sure of their current political situation
Rule of Three - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Scalar Federation - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Sempertirnus - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Smash Alliance - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Sons of Tangra - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge

Stain Empire - Indifferent. Don't really know much about them apart from fact they never seem to die and have very capable PvPers.
Sylph Alliance - Good. CVA friends and like Paxton have been improving their PvP skills and abilities over the past year. Bright future.
Tau Ceti Federation (TCF) - Good. One of the more apparently stable Coalition members. Seem to generally have good control over their members and substantail Cap fleet.
The Reckoning - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge
Triumvirate (TRI) - Indifferent. Certainly not a paper tiger. Huge sniper fleets and impressive cap fleets make them a force to be feared but internal growth pains seem to be affecting them now and recent setbacks may mean they are no longer the alliance of choice for high SP players. Only time will tell!
Ultima Ration - Indifferent. I think they are a RA pet alliance but dont know much about them
United Legion - Indifferent. Another Coalition alliance. Lots of pilots but not always terribly skilled. Now control a lot of space which could look ripe in a post-BoB world (if that happens).
Venom Alliance - Indifferent. Not in my sphere of knowledge

Biased towards anti bob propaganda. Trying to be objective but hiding typical propaganda style between the lines.

/me wears flamesuit, take popcorn and beer and looks how this topic will evolve :)

btw, 1st page woohoo! :)

about what i think about different entities... just few of them that i have an opinion:

Against All Authorities (AAA)
good fighters - will survive another year prolly

Atrum Tempas Foedus (ATF)
just simple pets - allowed to live in 0.0 space. when any organized medium sized force will come to them, they will die. No leaders, no FC's

Band of Brothers (BoB)
Makes eve interesting - 3 years ago my worst enemy. Now my closest friend because most of the players i have played some time ago are now in BOB or blue to bob. Good old guys, best crew in EVE currently (from POV)

Curatores Veritatis Alliance (CVA)
Oldest alliance still holding its space afaik. good guys but they just got to deep into themselfs.

Ev0ke
good fighters. shame they accepted going into PB and shame they got into big politics. This will kill them.

Firmus Ixion (FIX)
Good old alliance, good guys, good friends. Shame they are loosing some integrity. I hope FIX will get together and rebuild what they were (still many good pilots there).

Goonswarm
Bunch of kids with emotional problems. Worst entity EVE could ever had. They will probably survive 2008 (unfortunately)

Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate (IAC)
the same as AAA. Good fighters, but additionally they need aid from bigger brothers or they will die.

KIA Alliance
Great alliance, great guys. Shame they are red one. Together with other old members they could clean up EVE from all the dirt/junk that came to the game.

Mercenary Coalition (MC)
The same as KIA. You guys could start thinking again, do not follow ideas of non thinking guys.

Morsus Mihi
Good fighters. nothing else i can say now.

Razor Alliance
NAP fest lovers and poor fighters. Alliance not worth joining afaik.

Red Alliance (RA)
Once great alliance, now they lost all of my respect. Maybe someone will wake up there someday... or not? :)

Tau Ceti Federation (TCF)
Poor FC'ing but huge heart. if i remember correctly, huge cap fleet.

Commenting on only those on my radar. 2nd half of 2008 will be a year of returning to stablity and standing reset with agreements all round (esp for south) of 'POS NAPS' even though much pew pew to be expected between current blue alliances. I expect very few to lose space to hostile activities, after all the victors enjoy the spoils of war and whats currently left is mostly coalition forces anyway.

Against All Authorities (AAA) - Good. Strong Cap fleet and the leadership to go with it. Looking for more targets, neighbours beware!

Band of Brothers (BoB) - Bad. But now have forum hardeners set to max and I doubt they will dissolve. Expect them to lose all space, distill down and remove non (so called) l33t players.

Curatores Veritatis Alliance (CVA) - Good. Much respect for their continued development in providence. Only wish they were red to me as they are fun.

Dark Matter Coalition - Good. Whilst RA are still alive these guys will be safe and expand their super Cap ship production.

Destiny - Bad. Would probably fall if someone decided to take their space and allies did not intervene.

Ev0ke - Good. Tortuga will be secured.

Firmus Ixion (FIX) - Bad / Dead. Used to have respect, but now seriously need a reality check. Avernus will still say they are alive when he is the last man standing. They will dissolve.

Goonswarm - Good(ish) Expect the swarm to go from strength to strength in the first half of the year. When GBC is defeated I expect these guys to start setting up their own factions, possibly based around their squad system. Will remain on friendly terms but still probably shoot each other for fun.

Hydra Alliance - Good. Chilling in p3, learn to nano guys!

Imperial Republic of the North (IRON) - Good. Good core of guys leading. Will stick together.

Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate (IAC) - Good. Getting better all the time. But getting serious and losing that Drunkswarm image? will be interesting to see who ends up living in Querious. Expect to have friendly falling out with AAA and much pew pew.

KIA Alliance - Good. IF eddz can keep em together. Will depend on a stable tortuga, these guys need a home to RTB after contracts.

Knights of the Southerncross - BAD. I doubt they would lose space, but they are going to be the whipping boys when the south has a standings reset.

Mercenary Coalition (MC) - Good. As hardin said nice to see MC finally assert its independence. Initial rough ride will see them secure PB.

Morsus Mihi - Good. Have a common bond.

Outbreak - Good. Awesome pilots, scary cap fleet. Dont need a home like the rest of tortuga but as long as they keep themsleves busy and away from politics they'll be good. Only issue may be inclusion of more ex bob / fix pilots possibly causing internal strife.

Paxton Federation - Good. Steadily growing in stature and respect.

Pure - Unsure. Possible SMASHKILL pact should RA decide to have some fun with them. But i'm not really clued up on Vale/geminate/drone action tbh.

Razor Alliance - Good. Solid and motivated.

Red Alliance (RA) - Good. No danger of collapse, will probably look to secure borders and improve buffers.

Smash/Roadkill - See pure.

Stain Empire - Good. NPC land innit? pew pew galore.

Sylph Alliance - Good. See paxton federation.

Tau Ceti Federation (TCF) - Good. Highly motivated, may look to carve out a different part of 0.0 for a new home.

The Reckoning - Unsure. May get bored.

Triumvirate (TRI) - Good BUT may split up. Learnt alot from southern campaign, mainly about themselves, expect many bandwagoners to leave. Have a good core of guys. Most defintely not the new BOB. They're better.

Ultima Ration - Good. Uncle Ivan will look after them.

United Legion - Bad. Like KOS, probably for the chopping block once the southern standing reset occurs, other coalition alliances queuing up to shoot these guys. Will have to keep sweet with RA to survive.

Against All Authorities (AAA) - Good. Decent and smackless all the times i fought them.
Atrum Tempas Foedus (ATF) - Indifferent.
Band of Brothers (BoB) - Bad.
Blackout - Good. Have a group of older players with decent fc's.
Chaos Incarnate (CI) - Indifferent.
Curatores Veritatis Alliance (CVA) - Good. Have there thing sorted out on the defensive side. imo would be good for them to go offensive and get some more exp.
Dark Matter Coalition - Indifferent.
Destiny - Indifferent.
Enuma Elish - Indifferent. Saw them around with Blackout. Could go either way.
Ethereal Dawn - Good. Everytime i went there solo or with a small group they always formed a defense gang quickly. And there pilots are dedicated. F.E. There inty pilots are not afraid to go for a vaga when there is a chance of killing it.
Ev0ke - Indifferent.
Firmus Ixion (FIX) - Bad. Had fights with them quite a lot. Sometimes it is just time to move on go and do something else.
Goonswarm - Good. Full of spies full of T1 **** but they have the numbers and are having fun.
Hydra Alliance - Indifferent. They used to give fights most of the times we went to there space. Though the last months they are giving less and less. So get your act together.
Imperial Republic of the North (IRON) - Indifferent. Some good and exp plilots. But in my opinion they should clean there ranks of bears.
Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate (IAC) - Good. They give fights when they want to but are not avoiding a fight.
Intrepid Crossing - Bad. Seems like an not to well organised bit of bears imo. Maybee i am wrong dont have to mutch exp with them.
Ka-Tet - Indifferent. Could go either way. Some players are decent others are just bears. imo they should clear there ranks of bears.
KIA Alliance - Good.
Knights of the Southerncross - Bad. Bad leadership imo
Mercenary Coalition (MC) - Good.
Morsus Mihi - Indifferent. Avoiding to mutch fights.
Mostly Harmless - Indifferent.
Outbreak - Good. Although i don't know if they will mannage without there agents in Curse ;)
Paxton Federation - Indifferent. Don't know how good they are without CVA
Pure - Bad. They have some pvpers but way to mutch bears.
Razor Alliance - Good. Best Northern allaince imo. Have their act togehter. They don't hide from fights like MM. And they don't seem to have to mutch problems with having to mutch bears
Red Alliance (RA) - Good. One of the best allainces imo.
Roadkill - Bad. Lots of smack, Zero actoin.
Rule of Three - Good.
Smash Alliance - Indifferent. Some less smack then the Roadkill homies, some more actoin.
Stain Empire - Good. Bunch of exp players with decent PVP skills. Have thier act togehter. Always fun to fight!
Sylph Alliance - Good. In the Southern Campaign i had the best fights with Sylph. They where more eager to fight then CVA/PAX. At least in my experiences with them.
Tau Ceti Federation (TCF) - Good. Seem to have there act togehter.
The Reckoning - Indifferent. Could go either way. Don't have to mutch exp fighting them. Only went solo to there space on a few occasions. Sometime they made a defense gang othertimes they didnt.
Triumvirate (TRI) - Indifferent. Whine to mutch!
Ultima Ration - Good. A lot of people say they are just an RA alt allaince with bears. But i had sevral defense gangs after me while hunting in there space. And also the power of their gangs is that they dont blob with there defense gangs.
United Legion - Good. Same as for Ulitma Ratio

Against All Authorities (AAA) - My homeboys, Love too much their Mining Ops but when stirred into action they breathe fire at their enemies from 7 continents. Outlook is shiny.

Band of Brothers (BoB) - Playing their own game, experts and massive well-coordinated capital/conventional fleets and resource play assures them a lengthy fight for their last region(s). If they go down they'll make the SoCo pay for every system.

Curatores Veritatis Alliance (CVA) - Have established themselves as good defensive and offensive pilots, refreshing attitued to eve. Outlook positive.

Firmus Ixion (FIX) - There are still deep roots of attachment in the membership of the alliance, expect a rebirth in 2008.

Goonswarm - Love every last one of them. Here's wishing them a happy '08

Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate (IAC) - My old alliance, as long as they keep their spirits high (pun intended) '08 should be rosy as ever.

Knights of the Southerncross - Blob cos they have to, fighters that deserve some respect for perseverence. Future unknown.

Mercenary Coalition (MC) - Making their own path but don't expect to keep being mercs for long - Besides after Bob only contracts will be in empire :P

United Legion - They don't get enough credit - certainly not RA alts and quite capable of taking actions on their own recognisance. A good level of communication and co-ordination will see them improving their capabilities through 2008

Against All Authorities (AAA) - they love to blow stuff up, which is good

Band of Brothers (BoB) - Internet enemies! Coranor ftl

Brutally Clever Empire - they always fight, straight outta syndicate! fought them a good few times and it was fun, and i died a lot in the process

Curatores Veritatis Alliance (CVA) - very tough alliance, had some great skirmishes with them in providence, also great fun for the roleplay arguments in local

Firmus Ixion (FIX) - only real interaction i've had with FIX is listen to their forum warriors followed by sieging their pos's and then docking in their stations, not actually fought them.

Goonswarm - Dungar came from Goons so they cant be that good :(((

Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate (IAC) - tyrrax loses lots of expensive ships with style

Mercenary Coalition (MC) - more internet enemies!

Morsus Mihi - shot some of us while blue which we didnt like one bit -_o

Razor Alliance - very underrated, very dangerous and great allies.

Red Alliance (RA) - will ambush you with an empty bottle of vodka

Roadkill - >_<
Smash Alliance - see above

Sons of Tangra - in fountain somewhere killing people

Stain Empire - probably the most dangerous people i've ever fought in eve, made our lives in stain very unpleasant, highly underrated, extremely dangerous, I still remember what they did to my first muninn :(

Tau Ceti Federation (TCF) - Good allies, I've seen them do nasty stuff to unwanted people in their space.

Triumvirate (TRI) - I dont like tri tbh, they smack a lot in local, some talented leadership but generally unimpressive.

United Legion - these guys punch way above their weight.

Against All Authorities (AAA) - for their size, very talented in all aspects of PVP. Will go from strength to strength.
Atrum Tempas Foedus (ATF) - Slowly growing to become what I know they can be, will be good US tz allies of TRI.
Band of Brothers (BoB) - Having the time of their PVP lives :P
Blackout - Another STK alliance :s
Brutally Clever Empire - Grown massively, wonder if they will push for space.
Chaos Incarnate (CI) - Think they'll continue on in the drone regions
Curatores Veritatis Alliance (CVA) - They own space that no-one wants, and don't fight unless their space is challenged. Ergo, will remain as they are.
Dark Matter Coalition - Think that the drone regions will eventually kick them out
Destiny - Heh.
Enuma Elish - No idea sorry
Ethereal Dawn - Ditto
Ev0ke - Talented bunch of guys, fit perfectly together with 0utbreak.
FANG Alliance - No idea sorry
Firmus Ixion (FIX) - Think this year could finally be their end
Goonswarm - Will continue from strength to strength, can't wait until they kill smash :P
Hydra Alliance - again, space that no-one wants, will continue on as they are.
Imperial Republic of the North (IRON) - Well who knows. Nothing like what they used to be, leadership inactive/left. Now with the merger who knows. Continue bearing it up in the drone regions?
Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate (IAC) - Expansion into Querious?
Intrepid Crossing - No idea sorry
Ka-Tet - Drone regions again, their conflicts don't really interest me
KIA Alliance - Caught a break with being allowed into the MC/0utbreak/Evoke "alliance". How long it will last, who knows. They certainly seem to be the weakest of the 4 entities
Knights of the Southerncross - Repelling people all year
Kraftwerk - Will continue as they are
Mercenary Coalition (MC) - Will be interesting to see what happens once all is done and dusted with -A- et al.
Morsus Mihi - I look forward to future skirmishes :P
Mostly Harmless - Perfectly content in the drone regions
Paxton Federation - Help CVA a lot, a good ally for them.
Phoenix Allianz - No idea
Pure - Wonder if the northern napfest will ever break
Rare Faction - Branch with insurgency, will see what happens there
Razor Alliance - Definately under-rated. Some great PVPers.
Red Alliance (RA) - moar caps? :P
Roadkill - The good half of the smashkill relationship. Would love to see civil war between the two.
Rule of Three - Still alive? :/
Scalar Federation - No idea sorry
Sempertirnus - Ditto
Smash Alliance - The bad half of the smashkill relationship. Will peoke cause the internal breakup? It's been close once recently
Sons of Tangra - No idea sorry
Stain Empire - Talented small scale pvpers, why would they ever want to leave stain :P
Sylph Alliance - Good CVA allies.
Tau Ceti Federation (TCF) - Titan BPO bought, will continue on with RSF
The Reckoning - Cloud Ring, urgh
Triumvirate (TRI) - Reshaping to fix the problems caused by growth and space holding. Hopefully a smaller, slicker alliance will be the end product. Need to sort out sounding like tards on the forums (probably not helping :D)
Ultima Ration - No idea sorry
United Legion - Ditto
Venom Alliance - Ditto

Against All Authorities (AAA) - Jumping on the scary russian brosef bandwagon
Band of Brothers (BoB) - If you're going to post **** you may as well use your mains
Blackout - Chill dudes
Brutally Clever Empire - Up and coming alliance for 2k8
Curatores Veritatis Alliance (CVA) - First bunch of roleplayers I've seen online that are actually good at the game

Goonswarm - Not afraid to post on our mains
Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate (IAC) - They drink a lot or something apparently
KIA Alliance - Also chill guys when they lived near us
Knights of the Southerncross - Great at pos warfare as long as it doesn't involve remembering to put stront in the towers
Kraftwerk - :shobon:
Mercenary Coalition (MC) - Some of your guys are pretty annoying but a solid group overall
Morsus Mihi - North vOv
Paxton Federation - Ultimate respect for that fiasco a few months ago

Roadkill - :|
Smash Alliance - :|
Stain Empire - Impressively skilled players

These are MY opinions and therefore mean very very little and of course are biased as hell. Deleted the ones i dont know much about

Band of Brothers (BoB) - Bad, would like to see them fall for my own reasons
Goonswarm - Good, i like the goonies
Pure - Met one of their members, he seemed cool so therefore Good
Stain Empire - Xenobytes scare the hell out of me and are always attacking us :P they've got a certain style so i'd say neutral. Make the game more interesting definately
Tau Ceti Federation (TCF) - good, i like these guys
United Legion - We're allies so i'd have to say Good, but i have my reasons for not liking them.
Venom Alliance - ubar!

Against All Authorities (AAA) - Play's it cool, well structured group of players.

Band of Brothers (BoB) - Smart leadership with an impressive motivation force.

Brutally Clever Empire - Sit motherships on random 0.0 gates with minimal support.

Destiny - Pay way too much to Tri for there space.

Ev0ke - Was rather quiet since leaving D2, however alot of people seemed to respect them. Silly political move joining with MC in PB.

Firmus Ixion (FIX) - Dead.

Goonswarm - Bias opinion maybe, but from what i've seen of the Goonswam guys, very obnoxious, stupid and untrustworthy.

Hydra Alliance - Fail.

Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate (IAC) - MOAR BEER!

Intrepid Crossing - Fail.

Ka-Tet - Fail.

KIA Alliance - Eddz is fail.

Knights of the Southerncross - I laugh at these on a regular basis, there leadership and core is pitifull. Bad year ahead when (if?) the south calapses on itself.

Mercenary Coalition (MC) - Seleene is crying alot right now, bad year ahead.

Morsus Mihi - Another good year tbh, however try not to rat in motherships.

Razor Alliance - Not a fan, nor an expert on there political stance (apart from being in bed with MM).

Red Alliance (RA) - Stable year ahead, no doubt.

Roadkill - Fail souly for being related to SMASH.

Smash Alliance - Bad year ahead, i can see them biting the bullet. However i love pew pew in there home space, it's like NPCing, raven's just spawn.

Tau Ceti Federation (TCF) - French! :/.

Triumvirate (TRI) - Have lots of love for Tri tbh, when they are all working together as a unit it's a force to be reckoned with. Shame they have gotten a little ****y with the last 8 months of success.

Against All Authorities (AAA)- From what i gather a good PvP alliance in all forms.
Atrum Tempas Foedus (ATF) - Definitely starting to spread their wings.
Band of Brothers (BoB) - Start of the war I was dissapointed, now its nice to see BoB doing so well, where would be the fun if they were crushed?
Blackout - Dont know
Brutally Clever Empire - I hear they feel no fear!
Chaos Incarnate (CI) - Dont know
Curatores Veritatis Alliance (CVA) - The small core of CVA are decent, but they definitely do need their friends to survive. They play a good defence game, but not sure what their offensive would be like.

Destiny - Residents
Enuma Elish - Dont know
Ethereal Dawn - Dont know
Ev0ke - ♥ for some of my german friends!
FANG Alliance - Dont know
Firmus Ixion (FIX) - They seemed to last a long time, but i think its finally over for them. GG.
Goonswarm - mmmmm some decent leadership, some not so decent members.
Hydra Alliance - FLA of the drone regions Very Happy
Imperial Republic of the North (IRON) - Dont know much about their current circumstances other than they merged with invictus and hold a large chunk of drone regions.
Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate (IAC) - Give some good fights!
Intrepid Crossing - Dont know
Ka-Tet - Friends with Red Alliance? Drone regions.
KIA Alliance - Part of Tortuga, dont know what their position is or how strong they actually are.
Knights of the Southerncross - Repelling enemies since birth.
Kraftwerk - Dont know
Mercenary Coalition (MC) - I would have loved to have seen these guys stick with BoB till the end, though i can probably understand why they didn't. Good alliance!
Morsus Mihi - Intelligent leadership, they definitely show their true colours when theyre theyre playing defensively.
Mostly Harmless - TRUST etc. seem pretty content where they are.
Paxton Federation - Good allies to CVA, not afraid to fight.
Phoenix Allianz - Live in Branch...
Pure - Haven't heard much about them in a while.
Rare Faction - A small alliance in branch.
Razor Alliance - A decent alliance
Red Alliance (RA) - Crazy Russians, alot of caps and iskies.
Smashkill - Peoke's arrogance is overwhelming. But some of their members have their heads screwed on.

Sempertirnus - Dont know
Sons of Tangra - Dont Know

Triumvirate (TRI) - Paper tiger, over rated, falling apart internally and some idiot called Darknesss is in there.

Jut observing most people seem to be predicting that those currently on the up will remain going up and those going down will remain travelling down in that direction.

I'm a noob and quite frankly you have to be in or work really close with an alliance or know people in it to know what the future holds. But here are some more wacky suggestions

AAA - Good? Will turn on someone in the neighbourhood if they can't get enough fights. KOS is the obvious target and CVA not so improbable either, but more likey some new target will present itself

BoB - Bad? Will fragment in multiple directions if they do finally lose their territory. There are going to be some serious goon-haters / die-hards who keep fighting in the region until goons themselves are no more. But others will join existing alliances where they have friends and contacts and might have been anyway were it not for being in BoB. And there will probably be a new ex-bob alliance who will have a 0.0 foothold by the year's end.if, big if

CVA - Indifferent. Could start getting dangerous for CVA if the status-quo of BoB vs. etc breaks down. Going to be a lot of people looking around for "what next?" and as Tri have proved / because of Tri's campaign in Providence, going to be hard to stay under the radar forever

FIX - Bad. As predicted with BoB. I'm sure ppl will jump to say they aren't the same though. I'm always feeling a split between wanting to go do something new and exciting and wanting to stick around the home area that is so well known for so long, and I expect many FIX members would feel the same. FIX might die or it might become something else, but either way it seems to be failing in its current form. (Also Dark Shikari joined MC)

Goonswarm - Bad. If they're not careful they'll be so busy patting themselves on the back or going "Uuuuh what nekthhst?" that someone will come in and undercut them. Even worse fate could be that they start thinking about "Uuuuh what nekthhst?" and trying to engineer splitting up before properly finishing off BoB. Die hard Bobbits aren't going to "mop themselves up" like most alliances who see inevitable defeat or suffer some crushing blow. Goons have a singular purpose and are thus doomed no matter what. Clever ones will carve something out for themselves, but whether like FIX and BoB the name will survive in a different form I can't say

IAC - Good. Are best placed to really make something if BoB split (Big if again), and are fairly secure if not. Even if it is a bad year for them, which is hard to see atm, they will still be alive and kicking in 2009.

IIRC at some point IAC were NRDS. If they decide to go back to that, it could pay off big time, helping create strength in depth in catch with a friendly pro IAC population. But if it causes friction with neighbours who can't shoot neuts anymore and IAC are caught in that horrible situation where the neuts are all complaining they are no good in protecting them and neighbours complain they can't shoot who they want, maybe it isn't such a good idea afterall. Either way, difficult, especially if catch gets busy with people who aren't obviously blue or red as was the case in the days of the Southern Coalition.

IRON - Good. Armchair generals like me see them lose Delekin long time ago and go "pfft they're dead surely" Evidently not, and I'm sure they will be one of the alliances to cream off some of the newly displaced, maybe like Tri did in 2007. But they'll have to be a bit more selective

Sylph - Indifferent. Wedged in between Providence, IAC and a number of other alliance's space I can't see them going anywhere in more than one sense

TRI - These guys need a proper enemy. I'm sure they'll find one in 2008

Drone Regions - Indifferent. Will keep plodding along and by the year's end, will be consolidated by a number of medium sized alliances. What happens after that might be a bit more exciting

North - Will grow fat and over-ripe as comflict in the south attracts pvp players away.

One of the major alliances in the north will fall by year's end. Not qualified to say which though.

Again this is a perception more than a prediction based on good sources

edit: missed out a few, too few characters left >.<

Venom Alliance - Good. In the right place at the right time. See goons

I think it is worth saying a lot of small and medium sized alliances are struggling for an identity. I predict if factional warfare makes an appearance in 2008, many of these alliances will jump at it. Could lead to interesting dynamics if your neighbour suddenly becomes a factional warfare target

Also what of the relationship between the Russian Alliances? I'm sure many ppl have joined an alliance based around people all from the same country and found that you get on with them no better than people from other nations. So no wonder that not all Russians are in RA, (and I'm told they aren't all homogeneously Russians & Ukranians (yes I know big difference between the two) anyway), but how well will they get on really post Southern Coalition?

Finally, consider for 2008 outside factors. What happens if there is a recession in say Russia or the USA or the UK and many people cancel their subs from those countries?

Obviously all judgements on alliances have to be subjective (and therefore controversial) nevertheless they can create an interesting snapshot.

I am interested in what people's views are on the reputations and future expectations of the CURRENT main territory holding alliances are? To avoid bias the list is presented alphabetically:

Against All Authorities (AAA) - Good
Atrum Tempas Foedus (ATF) - Who?
Band of Brothers (BoB) - For what BoB membership are looking for, Good. The forum denizens will call it a bad year.
Blackout - Don't know enough about them.
Brutally Clever Empire - Good. I'm optimistic about BRUCE as long as they can get left alone long enough to mature.
Chaos Incarnate (CI) - Don't know enough.
Curatores Veritatis Alliance (CVA) - TRI war will tell it all. I think TRI are there for kicks and giggles rather than to wreck anyone though, so maybe indifferent.
Dark Matter Coalition - Don't know enough.
Destiny - Who?
Enuma Elish - Who?
Ethereal Dawn - Don't know enough.
Ev0ke - If the can keep Outbreak and MC from killing each other, good.
FANG Alliance - no idea
Firmus Ixion (FIX) - Indifferent. Will start bad and end well.
Goonswarm - commonly heard in Goon Alliance: "we have 5000 people in this alliance, why can't we get even 100 in this PvP gang", "hey guys, what nationality should I be in POTBS", but a steady supply of new recruits will keep them going. Killing or not killing BoB won't determine the course of this alliance.
Hydra Alliance - No idea.
Imperial Republic of the North (IRON) - Good - and who wouldn't have a good year making sweet manlove with RZR
Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate (IAC) - Bad, but they'll be too drunk to care either way.
Intrepid Crossing - No idea.
Ka-Tet - Good. Drone Regions = safe + iskies.
KIA Alliance - Good if they can keep Outbreak and MC from shooting each other.
Knights of the Southerncross - If the Tortugians want to hold space and MC wants to go back to taking contracts, they need to secure their flanks.
Kraftwerk - Who knows.
Mercenary Coalition (MC) - Bad. They needed BoB. Most MC members are in there because they don't want to deal with POS wars. The moment they leave on their first contract a long way away, someone's going to come and visit. Will be challenged internally and externally to the brink, but will probably right the ship in the end.
Morsus Mihi - who knows.
Mostly Harmless - Indifferent. Fountain tempts many an alliance and it turns over quite regularly.
Paxton Federation - Who?
Phoenix Allianz - Who?
Pure. - Where are they living now?
Rare Faction - Who?
Razor Alliance - Good. And who wouldn't be making sweet manlove with IRON
Red Alliance (RA) - Good. Looking North and likely ready to settle some old debts.
Roadkill - Good. Especially if they can figure out how to finally take over all of SMASH without having to invite Peoke to join. Nobody in that part of the Everse is in any shape to take space away from them.
Rule of Three - no idea.
Scalar Federation - who?
Sempertirnus - Who?
Smash Alliance - For the leadership, Good. They will continue to bilk billions off the membership. For the membership, who cares, SMASH is he fastest revolving door in all of Eve, none of them will be around long enough as part of the Alliance for them to care either way.
Sons of Tangra - Who?
Stain Empire - Indifferent.
Sylph Alliance - Who?
Tau Ceti Federation (TCF) - Indifferent. Their future is tied to Goon.
The Reckoning - no dea.
Triumvirate (TRI) - Good. Trying desperately to live up to their reputation, while trying to side-step the Great War. Will need to do something to add 500 veteran PvP accounts with 20m+ SP if they want to survive and be a power-house in Eve going into 2009.
Ultimate Ratio - No idea.
United Legion - Good. It's safe and warm under RAGOON's skirt.
Venom Alliance - Good. It's safe and warm under RAGOON's skirt.

Just for fun. Only allies i know.

Against All Authorities (AAA) - Thug's pets. Next please.
Band of Brothers (BoB) - They will be here, at least this year for sure. Do not underestimate em.
Blackout - Saw them only once personally.. Killing their pos.. They showed just one rapier. Don't think 2008 will make them much better. Enough said.
Brutally Clever Empire - New horde growing in Syndicate and Fountain?
Curatores Veritatis Alliance (CVA) - They do fight. But is it enough to survive in `08? Like these guys.
Enuma Elish - according our killboard - they exist, but i donīt believe it. Hi to Captain Kaizoku! :)
Ev0ke - growing from chaos. 2008 opens good fields for them. Nice bunch of german guys. But imo they should go their own way.
Firmus Ixion (FIX) - they fought till the end. But they always were just FIX.
Goonswarm - who are they? Never heard abo...ouch..sorry...nooooooo.. ;)
Imperial Republic of the North (IRON) - "as sov count will switch to IRON sov by tomorrow"... tomorrow and tomorrow... someday.. :)
Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate (IAC) - Eeeak.. :) Hope it will be good year for them.
KIA Alliance - Newbe sov holder. "Give him an inch and he'll take a mile" and they do can.
Knights of the Southerncross - Bad year... very bad... Newbs on titans repelling heroes of great anti-BoB war (aka heroes of anti-RA war).
Mercenary Coalition (MC) - Hello, Seleene! o/ Hope they will keep their way to the end.
Morsus Mihi - good anti-POS warriors. (everything i know)
Paxton Federation - +CVA.
Razor Alliance - too ambitious. This year may be tricky for them.
Red Alliance (RA) - Thug's alts. Best alts afaik. :) Going their own way, but affecting EVE's main arena.
Roadkill - boom...headshot. Hope this year they come to Stain seriously.
Stain Empire - my grandpa told me a story about scary people living to the south from our home. I was there two time since then, and didn't meet anyone scaring, but saw so many hostile wrecks, that i try not to show myself there anymore. Believe me, they do exist and they do KILL people. Yarrrr... :)
Tau Ceti Federation (TCF) - one of most expanded alliances in the last year. Bring it on, guys.
Triumvirate (TRI) - nice targets. Fast, agile and strong. Hope see them more frequently on my overview this year.

Thats my own opinion as a Stain carebear. :)

This is just from my own pov and experience, no smack intended.

Against All Authorities (AAA) - Very good, strongest entity in coalition. Not tied too close to goons and will do whats best for them, without overeaching themselves.
Atrum Tempas Foedus (ATF) - Dont know them
Band of Brothers (BoB) - Indifferent. Anyone who thinks they will be dead a year from now doesnt know them. On the other hand the enemy list is getting a bit excessive.
Blackout - Could go either way. Need to not get too cosy with goons.
Brutally Clever Empire - Good. Could become a new power in eve if they stop suiciding fleets. They will learn though
Chaos Incarnate (CI) - Dont know
Curatores Veritatis Alliance (CVA) - Indifferent. Will be fine unless they annoy someone big.
Dark Matter Coalition - Dont know them
Destiny - Dont know them
Enuma Elish - Goon pets? Will rise and fall with their master (yes goons, like us)
Ethereal Dawn - Dont know them.
Ev0ke - Need to prove they arent just in PB to make up the numbers, cos i aint seen many of them ....
FANG Alliance - Dont know them.
Firmus Ixion (FIX) - Indifferent. I think FIX are unkillable, but what form they will take i really do not know.
Goonswarm - Indifferent. How goons do entirely depends how long the war goes on. Without the war they are just a goaless mob with few freinds. When they have a goal they are of course a swarm.
Hydra Alliance - Dont know them.
Imperial Republic of the North (IRON) - First up against the wall when the coalition breaks down possibly.
Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate (IAC) - Depends if they gravitate towards -a- or goons i think.
Intrepid Crossing - Indifferent. These guys have done impressive things, but i have a feeling they may struggle.
Ka-Tet - Good, were quite decent when we fought them in Feyth. I hear they are doing well in the drone regions.
KIA Alliance - Indifferent. Mercs with space = bad idea. They had little to lose though, compared with MC and outbreak.
Knights of the Southerncross - Bad. The runt of the coallition, already getting picked on. Need to clear out the farmers too.
Kraftwerk - Indifferent. I dont know what they are doing now.
Mercenary Coalition (MC) - Bad. Bob will probably kill them, if not the coalltition will. Either way their rep is ruined with everyone who can afford to hire them.
Morsus Mihi - Good. More organised than most of the north. If the napfest drops they will do well
Mostly Harmless - Dont really know them. What i have seen not impressive.
Paxton Federation - Who?
Phoenix Allianz - Dont know
Pure - Dont know enough about them.
Rare Faction - Who?
Razor Alliance - Indifferent. Have performed poorly when i have seen them fight, doesnt seem to matter though.
Red Alliance (RA) - A mystery. Is their inaction and whispers of internal strife a sign they are about to implode? Or will a year from now see them control eve? who knows?
Roadkill - Indifferent. Poor showing for their size. Coallition breakdown will see them struggle.
Rule of Three - Dont know them
Scalar Federation - Dont know them
Sempertirnus - Dont know them
Smash Alliance - See roadkill.
Sons of Tangra - Who?
Stain Empire - Good. Small gang masters. Every time i go through stain there are more of them too.
Sylph Alliance - Dont know them
Tau Ceti Federation (TCF) - Good. Seem well organized and dont back down. On the other hand they hang with goons and suicide fleets. I think they will still do well.
The Reckoning - Dont know them
Triumvirate (TRI)- Good. The newpower in eve, if only because they refused to pick a side.
Ultima Ratio - RAGoon pets, i dont know if they have teeth.
United Legion - RAGoon pets, do have teeth though.
Venom Alliance - Good, Dont really know them but i know a couple of guys who joined are decent so i'll say good.
