I've only quickly skimmed what candidates seem to be discussing and well seems to me most of them have it wrong, thought it was just a team going to say ah okay no helping bob/goons/whoever here so all is cool. Aka a 'keep loving us' program by CCP. the candidates all seem to think if they get elected that they will have a dramatic effect up on changing the game and are thus going more than berserk on posting their thoughts on how to change the game. Many are absurdly stupid and way too radical to be even worth a read. Others are not so crazy. I'll get on the topic.
In many of these threads the 'ideals' of the game or similar word pop up and it led me to think what do the candidates really think eve is all about? Now I've not thought up my own answer yet, may come later as this thread continues (if it does).
Few questions to help with making it to the point (don't give us 3 replies worth of text no one wants to read that!). What do you enjoy most in Eve? What do you do the most in Eve? What have you done in Eve? - Do you wish to do it again/still do it?
What do you dislike the most in Eve? What do you dislike doing the most in Eve? What have you not done in Eve? - Do you want to try any of it?
What does the future of Eve look like to you? What would you like it to look like?
What do you generally feel about CCP's approach in managing the game? Have they done any bad mistakes? - Did they learn from these mistakes? - Do you have any plans or interest in bringing said mistakes up with them? Do you feel they have done something very positive/clever in managing the game that they need to be praised for?
I think all the candidates can make a wall of text form that already but try and keep it short! (and no pyramids just make it solid speech! :P) |

That was the very old (and seemingly 99% dropped) idea of an "oversight commitee", sort of a player Inquisition if you like. The IA department made that idea pretty much redundant. The current incarnation of the CSM is supposed to be a sort of a "voice of the people", with the 9 elected candidates forming some sort of advisory board for CCP, bringing the issues players feel need to be addressed to CCP's ear... guaranteeing only that they will be listened to, but not guaranteeing compliance. |

Well therin lies a problem. Why bother to listen if you dont plan to take any action?
My thought is that ccp is putting out a bit of cash to bring candidtes to iceland so i'm not entirely sure that they dont plan to take any action.
I think ccp is putting out an honest feeler to find out whats needed to keep EvE from stagnating and slowly dying out. Thats cool.
And what better way to do that then by asking the representatives of the player base what their pet peeves and most favourite things are?
EvE has such huge potential, limited only by the ability of computer hardware and the imaginations and skill of the programers.
Will the elected canditates have an impact upon Eve as a whole? You can bet on it. A very large one I'd Guess. :-)

Hello Ramruqai,
I think that the position of CSM may be a big PR stunt, but I hope to have a lasting, positive impact on the game nonetheless. In doing so, I will not use bias (both of my characters are in NPC corps) but will represent the voting base respectfully.

Ramruqai good thread here.
Firstly Bunyip you nearly won my vote with your proposed changes to bounty hunting but the fact that you fear PvP would make me think again. Its a multiplayer game we aren't here to hold hands and skip through the prairies. Suicide ganking is an integral part of the game if you get ganked its your own fault not a fault in the game, it makes you actually play the game properly.
The great thing about EVE is its DIVERSITY there are people who would steal off their own grandmothers and there is.. well carebears and so many shades inbetween. If you want to mine mission run and relax there is that option if you want balls to the wall PvP action there is that also. Not to mention the Phd you need to figure out T2 invention(slight exaggeration)and other aspects of the game that take a lot of intelligence(stuff I steer away from hehe). You can become diplomats, fleet commanders, soldiers , mercenaries a kind of built in roleplay element of the game that is player created to an extent. Another thing that makes Eve and im sure other good MMOs is team spirit and sense of unity.
I think to a large extent becoming something you are not is a big attraction your boss might be giving you grief in work so you become a griefer and take out your angst on the carebears. You may just want peace and love in the world so you become a diplomat and try and mediate warring factions or become a spy. This a major attraction because the anthropomorphic element to EVE situations draw lots of parallels to some everyday situations. I think CCP somewhat tried to push this ideology in one of their banner ad campaigns but slightly missed the point in that they tried to parallel your IG character with your RL one. Perhaps you become in EVE what you wish you could become in RL thus secretly fulfilling some sort of secret ambition. Maybe EVE could somehow nurture a hidden talent you didn't know you had?

1) What do you enjoy most in Eve? - The player based market and the production/mining/trading part. 2) What do you do the most in Eve? - Producing stuff and doing trades! 3) What have you done in Eve? - Do you wish to do it again/still do it? - Would say i tried every aspect of the game, every "job" u can make. Tried all of it till i found what i like most. 4) What do you dislike the most in Eve? Not beeing safe in high sec! (not meaning if war decd) Also low sec is too unbalanced! 5) What do you dislike doing the most in Eve? POS warefare! Too unbalanced! 6) What have you not done in Eve? - Do you want to try any of it? - I have done afaik all u can in EVE. 7) What does the future of Eve look like to you? What would you like it to look like? The future must be balanced for both the PVP and non-PVP aspect of the game! Making high sec stuff more safe and PVP and 0.0 stuff more intresting! 8) What do you generally feel about CCP's approach in managing the game? They work hard. Sure it is hard to keep such a game all the time "perfect" but they listen to the players. Some more player-CCP relation wouldn't be wrong though from their part. 9) Have they done any bad mistakes? - Did they learn from these mistakes? - Do you have any plans or interest in bringing said mistakes up with them? - Sure they have done mistakes. They are still human Bringing up issues and facing them would surely be good as maybe they understand better in a face to face discussion what they did wrong and how they should approach the problem. 10) Do you feel they have done something very positive/clever in managing the game that they need to be praised for? - Invention is a good part they did as it balanced the T2 items on the market! Also it gives newer players a chance to achieve something and earn some good cash! |

I don't stick to one thing. I mine and run missions, make stuff, and interact with the corps my friends are in. Originally by: Ramruqai What have you done in Eve? - Do you wish to do it again/still do it?
I've done everything of Eve besides partaking in 0.0 warfare, piracy and killing other people. I'm still doing the things I posted above, but I've been to 0.0 a few weeks back to run missions and to convince people to vote for me in the CSM, and I think I want to give 0.0 another try and run missions for Mordu's Legion or Guristas to see if that works out. Being shot at at almost every gate was not very comfortable but it was a challenge nonetheless. Originally by: Ramruqai What do you dislike the most in Eve?

0.0 warfare, piracy and killing other people. Not going to do any of that because my personality is incompatible with such acts. I'd like to have some PVP in a consentual environment such as will probably be offered through Faction Warfare though. Originally by: Ramruqai What does the future of Eve look like to you? What would you like it to look like?
I'd like to see more content aimed at individuals and small groups, both PVE and PVP. It should be encouraged to band up with others you don't know so well, without having to worry about scams like the lofty and such. I'd like to see policing and crime prevention as player responsibility, and that killing criminals and those with a bounty is rewarded. There's a lot of s****in Eve, and the sooner we as players can deal with them, the better. Originally by: Ramruqai What do you generally feel about CCP's approach in managing the game? Have they done any bad mistakes? - Did they learn from these mistakes? - Do you have any plans or interest in bringing said mistakes up with them?
I think they have underestimated how many players want to play safely by themselves or with small groups of friends. And I also do not get the feeling that they really thought out 0.0 warfare well, with the tedious POS warfare and the many complaints about capships. Both groups of players need more interesting activities to engage in. Oh and the UI, esp. the one for Manufacturing and Invention... Totally horrid, and definately something I'll bring up. Originally by: Ramruqai
Do you feel they have done something very positive/clever in managing the game that they need to be praised for?
Yes, I love Eve for its complexity and the fact that players create their own experience instead of being hand-held through a preconstructed quest/raid/level system. Sure, Ultima Online had that too, but at least they did not follow the Everquest/WoW bandwagon. I'm sorry I didn't make a solid speech but that would have taken a lot more time, and this covers my points well enough I think. |

They are doing okish. Could have prevented a few embarrassments in the past if they had listened to players BEFORE putting something silly in though, or if they would think of ALL consequences of changes, not just those affecting their preferred playstyles. They certainly have a track record of attempted and even committed bad mistakes. Most of those are fixed in a fairly timely (relatively to other games) manner though. One mistake still in the game is the easy mode probing of mission runners in lowsec as a result of the new safespot probing mechanics, and even though there has been a remedy attempt it is still borked. It is interesting to see how much it is the community that people either like or dislike!
Seems to me that a few of these candidates already posting have more so a problem with the community within the game they are not a part of. Care bears complaining they don't get enough shelter in empire and pvp'ers shouting 'lol n00b' at those that want to feel safe in empire.
Just a little input from me for some god forsaken reason: What I would like CCP to do in the future is to pull back on the content adding and focus more on fixing bugs, minor and major of what is wrong with what is in already. Both balance wise and programmer wise. I would also like to see CCP pull back on their need to change everything on a few month base. Examples: Damage Control: We feel that the damage control module is not used enough and therefor we want to give it a new role all together. Which ended in almost all BS fitting damage control today and making most ships harder to kill and a introduction of more de-aggro to jump at gate and docking games. I-Stab: We feel that the I-stab is not used enough and therefore we want to give it a new role all together. This one ended in BS and smaller craft flying easily past 10k/s, the introduction of the nano craz, nano problem, nano ***gotry etc. They then decided that it was out of hand, wich it was and toned it down a little bit with a few changes. Some say it is ok atm but some don't. I'd guess it's the nr1 disagreement any two pvp'ers can have in eve atm.
They seem to have cut down on this and I believe it's a good thing. Changes such as this have way too dramatic affect on the game, in my opinion anyways.
What do the candidates think of dramatic changes on already implemented content?
P.S. Still plenty candidates that have not replied to first post! :) |

Some random examples: - lived in open 0.0 for over a month without docking (before there were POSs) - flown, killed and been killed by a capital ship - led a fleet - killed someone who had previously killed me (before the days of kill rights) - been podded while AFK - made an Eve movie (x3) - designed a killboard - adopted a new player, helped him with the game - smacked on eve-o with an alt (but only once ) - completed a 10/10 complex - pirated with a 14-day trial character - F11'ed my pod (only older players will get this) Originally by: Ramruqai What do you dislike the most in Eve?
Stupidity, both in-game and on the forums. At least the game has a block function. Originally by: Ramruqai What do you dislike doing the most in Eve?
Flying to Jita maybe? That's actually pretty hard for me to answer; these days if I'm online and it looks like I'm going to be doing something I don't really enjoy, I'll probably just log off and do something else instead. Life's too short. Originally by: Ramruqai What have you not done in Eve? - Do you want to try any of it?
I have never scammed anyone, spied on anyone, smacked in local (that I can recall), shot a blue or run a POS. However, were it still possible, I'd be interested in winning a T2 BPO one day? Originally by: Ramruqai What does the future of Eve look like to you? What would you like it to look like?
Efforts to control lag and RMT will only be mildly successful at best. The population will continue to grow, capital ship numbers will continue to grow, metagaming will continue to grow, and the forums will continue to be a mess. What I'd like is to be proven wrong. Generally I think they've done as well as can be expected, considering we're talking about an MMO that encourages the sorts of behaviour that it does. T20. Whether or not they have truly learned from that whole episode is something I sincerely hope I'm permitted to find out if I'm elected. That in turn may decide how worthwhile/positive the CSM concept turns out to be. /Ben |

Amarr, I never said I would never PvP again, nor that I fear it. I just don't like it due to the stress levels and aggrivation of losing your valuable ship. I understand the importance of PvP in Eve, but I don't like it being a basically mindless activity. There are many ways to encourage PvP without nerfing the actual event, such as Bounty Hunting being a mechanically-viable occupation or deadspace zones that automatically make those who enter flash red (allowing PvP more rapidly). As I said on my CSM website, I'm a realist, and want to encourage a game that is more fun and more involving to the players. I can guarantee that I will PvP again, as I have succeeded in PvP before. - Bunyip |
