An optional patch was deployed today that addresses issue some players have had with running multiple clients simultaneously. If you’re used to running two or more clients at once and have had trouble in the past, please apply the optional patch, try it out and discuss how it works in this forum thread. Feedback is appreciated and if you run into trouble please remember to file a bugreport and attach a logfile of the run. Keep in mind that you can always install or uninstall optional patches through the ESC menu.

It is recommended to set resource cache size in the settings menu to low, or even off when using multiple clients.

I hope it works i use mutiple clients on my pc. @ is the limit for now, because with a third he always crashed. Also running 2 clients gave problems. With windows 2000 prof it was not possible, now have windows xp it occurs but less, I hope this patch solves a lot problems especially when you are trading between your chracters. Before downtime i almost lost the providence when this account was thrown out while trading. The ship returned after the download with my other account. So no need too make a petition over a ship you did not lost.

If I originally declined to install the optional patch, is there a way to bring up the install option again ?

I've had issues running multiple clients. But I'm not sure any of those would get addressed in this optional patch because there's no explanation of what it's meant to fix.

Maybe we can get that before I commit to installing it.

Maybe you can just click the link provided in the optional patch installing window which takes you to the Patch Notes, and explains what this patch does...

Does this patch come with a flux capacitor, a Delorean, plutonium and enough road to get up to 88MPH?

Hello,

I installed the new optional patch that came online today, and now Eve is not running anymore. When I start it, only the very first picture is showing with the Emperian Age pic, then its dissapearing, not even the login screen appears.
Log Server says:
There is no D3D device available
and
42777 : trinity.TriDevice: HRES:none(none)

Empyrean Age 1.0.0-4 Optional Client changes, released 25 June 2008

The Cache Size option in the ESC menu would always be set to High, no matter what value was selected/displayed, this has now been fixed. Note: Changing the Cache Size in the ESC menu to Low should reduce memory usage at the cost of possible longer loading times.
A new instance of the warp sound was being loaded into memory each time a player warps a ship within the same solar system, these instances would pile up until he changed session.

I'm still not sure what the issues running multiple clients are, from reading the patch notes. Long load times?

I've always had problems running two clients in Trinity mode at the same time - massive slowdowns, especially when approaching gates or undocking. Then I tried running two clients in Classic mode, but if they're both fullscreen then one always gets corrupt. The easiest solution was just to run the two clients in windowed mode, and maneuver the windows to just fit my screen's dimensions.

Alt-tabbing is really fast and I get good response times from both clients. The only annoyance is that occasionally the start bar hovers on top of the active window, but switching between fullscreen and windowed mode (alt-enter) makes it go away.

I'm having the same IDENTICAL problem. Eve is totally non-responsive and just sits on the taskbar.

How to remove the optional patch without starting EVE, for those who can not start the eve client.

The optional patch is stored in a application data folder under all users, deleting it will effectively uninstall the optional patch.

Optional patch location
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP\EVE
Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\CCP\EVE

In this folder you will see another folder called something like c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility, If you delete this folder then the optional patch is no more and you should be able to start your eve client normally.

If you can start your client and want to uninstall the optional patch then start the client and hit ESC, you will see a uninstall button in the general settings tab. Also if you have declined to download the optional patch at some point you can manually install it from the same location in the ESC menu.

I had the option to download and install this patch earlier. I clicked no because I was in a hurry to change a skill, where can I find the download link?

I dont know what 3 posts the guy above me is talking about as they all address how to uninstall it.

to install it is in the same place though. hit esc. and it's in the general tab, bottom center.

*edit*

Prior to installing this update I thought I'd skip it and do it from the esc menu. Well, I installed the previous optional patch. I now had 'details' and 'install' under the optional patch section. I had a new 'uninstall' button down by the 'close' button... is this uninstall for the previous optional patch?

After installing this option patch, the 'uninstall' button is back where it should be (in the optional upgrade box).

Is this really how it should be?

In an attempt to "fix" the problem, I uninstalled Eve, downloaded a new client and re-installed. I still cannot get anything to come up on the screen after the splash.. just eve sitting idle in the taskbar spitting out D3D errors for the log. Did you apply the optional client to the current downloadable client, as well?

That sounds like a memory leak which will affect single instance players too.

From the beginning nov 2004 i used EVE the first time i have problems bij using EVE by dual client, by the single client i have no problems at all. By buying an new PC whith an dual-core AMD in 2006 i have little problems over. By upgrading that PC in 2007 into an quatro-core AMD all the problems are fully over, i can handle everything all together whith mail, webbrowser, another small cardgame, TeamSpeake or Ventiro, MSN, etc on.

If the hardware not the same is what EVE is asked then go downwards in hardware compability to EVE itself, use the simplest EVE-client if the hardware is simple.

By an dual-core and quatro-core there are managementtools (from AMD / INTEL itself) for telling which EVE-client may used which processor of the dual/quatro. This is not an simple task, by bad using this tools there is the possibility for blowing up the processor.

I Used olso an temperture controldevice for control the Processor, Motherbord, Videocard, Harddisk, and the case itself. This parameters are more importent then many people thinks.
By using so device you can choiching for reducing the processor voltage an little bit. I used this choich an bring my processor back to 1.2 volt, by this action my total temeture of the processor dropped from 65 degrees normal to 45-50 degrees (i used the Zalman Copper for processor and graphic card), this by last summer by roomtempetures of 30 á 35 degrees - this tempeturecontrol olso helps more then many people thinks.

My meaning is that the lack of knowledging by software and hardware is mostly the problem, and its not the problem of the EVE program or the hardware itself. Mostly they think they can used the EVE-clients whith all the "options on" but the PC itself cant handle it.

Greetings

The new download of eve client had an "eve.exe (safe mode)" application included in it. I ran in safe mode (crappy gfx, etc..) then closed Eve normally and re-launched successfully using the normal Eve program. This appears to have gotten rid of the issue that caused the D3D errors. All seems well while logging in, now. As a precaution, I'm updating my video drivers to ensure highest compatibility for the D3D. Hope this helps.
