Unofficial EvE-O Mumble Server

Address: twilightlair.net
Port: 64738

What is this?
This is an unofficial mumble server for eve inhabitants to join for general chatting and fun :). If your corp is relatively small but want some more folks to chat with, this server is perfect. The more the merrier Very Happy

Why mumble?
The two alternatives are ventrilo and teamspeak. I am hosting this on my own server, so vent isn't an option. As for TS, well, mumble has much better sound quality, and some other neat features TS lacks, mainly. Just do some quick research and go to places like here for more info.

How do I use this?
Download the mumble software here and if you've never used it before, I highly recommend you read a little guide I wrote up here, as well. Our server is also available on the public server list.

Can my corp/alliance make use of this server?
Sure! Just contact one of the current admins and we can setup private rooms for ya.

Anything I can do to help?
While on the server, just be generally friendly and respectful. If you have any suggestions please about anything at all, please let me know. Also, this is a new server, so there may not be a whole lot of people on to start with. Spread the word to anyone who might be interested =D.

Is this endorsed/sponsored by CCP as the "official" tag implies?

1) what do you mean the server is slow? I haven't seen you log on to test it =P
2) no it's not "officially endorsed" or anything, but no one else has one up :)

yeah mumble is awesome Very Happy. teamspeak has remained static for years.

love that mumble is opensource, and has really active development and all. some of the features are pretty neat to like the positional audio thing, although that's not available for eve =P

It's not slow.
And Mumble is actually designed to be low latency. Everything else being equal excect latency to be lower than Vent/TS.

Mumble is the future when it comes to voice app for gaming.
Vent is restrictive - you can't just set up your own server if you want more than a handful people on server.
TS 3 has been coming soon almost as long as Duke Nukem 2k.
Skype is too limited and big.

Mumble has been designed by players for gamees. Is free, open source, low overhead, high quality, ross platform (win, linux, mac) and all around shiny.

Nice!

Not that I use voice chats that often but when it comes to it, Mumble offers the most features while being cross platform and open source.
That's why I'm also hosting my own server.

Nice app!

2) no it's not "officially endorsed" or anything, but no one else has one up :)

so it's nothing to do with CCP or EvE other than the fact that you're an player of EvE.

NOT an official EvE-O Mumber Server, change the thread

Sythyss,

I just set up mumble for our alliance. We are testing it this weekend for a move from the soul destroying Team Speak. Might PM ya in game to have a chat about what your experience has been so far with it.

I quite like the flexibility in setting up complex channel structures for fleet ops. And it does have some really well thought out features but equally some real bone headed features as well like complete lack of in client user admin. Topped with that the only webadmin tool is Nix systems based.

I have however written a port to x386 of the php webadmin tool (first in existence as far as I know, might post it on sourceforge). I will be extending this to pull data from api keys so alliance validation of players is automated and self administering.

All in all though so far it is light years ahead of either TS or Vent.
