A long overdue and much needed change will be put in place with the Wednesday, 15 October 2008 patch. Ghost Training, the continuous skill gain on accounts in an inactive or expired state - will no longer function after Wednesday, 15 October 2008. This practice upsets the balance of the game, and capsuleers who actively put their time and energy into working on their characters will no longer be unfairly affected by those few who have not.

We understand that this is a hot topic amongst players, and request that you discuss this necessary change without breaking the forum rules.

I really don't understand why there's such a strong need to change this now.

Besides, how are you being any less active at improving your character than someone with an active account? All you can do is set a single long skill training, and that requires just as much activity on your part whether you're subscribed or not. This is a poor choice of justification.

As others have suggested, this might actually have a negative net impact on your total income, as people leaving the game will no longer have the option to leave a skill going in case they decide to return later; they won't have something new to come back to.

drat, second. -edit- okay, fifth..

if you're going to take it out, at least tell us the real reason. it's not 'the balance', it's that you want us to pay while we wait for the 30-50 day battleship V skills go through, not to mention the capital ship skills, or pretty much any other month-or-more skill. there isnt a thing we can do about it, other than stomp our collective feet, but the least you can do is not lie to us.

They realized they royally ****ed up with GTC's, and don't want to reverse their decision? thus.. making it mandatory to pay to train.

Business in "trying to make money" shocker!

Don't see a problem with it, always thought it was a strange decision to allow training on unsubbed accounts. If you want to train, pay.

Meh, but the good thing is that all my inactive acounts are about to finish their 40-60 day skills within a few days so... But still meh. Since now basicly there's not even a reason to reactivate the account to start a skilltraining, this change imo will render more inactive accounts than it was before...

Why not delete characters who's accounts become inactive? That will really force the players to keep their subscriptions active!

What a great idea. I hope you dont get Sent anywhere that youll have to be gone for any leanth of time. Maybe A Hospiktal. Active service in the Military or Anything. because when ya came back your acct would be gone and youd have to start all over. then youd be crying your little babyblues over it.

Please try to explain this a bit better. How are people actually putting their energy and time into clicking on a skill? Since skills train automatically without any actual practice.

I believe if this will be implemented, EVE will not just lose a lot of players but a unique feature which made it attractive among other MMO's.

As most of the times, now you fail again to give a satisfactory argument, why you change something what everyone liked in this game. Why don't you just say that you need more money?

A lot of people will be unhappy, but I can't say I'm surprised this change has come. At first glance, I also can't say that I see any kind of problem with this change, it seems fair enough.

Has anyone ever actually felt "unfairly affected" by people who do this? I may not do it myself, but this certainly looks like a completely pointless change. Not going to benefit you or the players.

Well at least this should divert peoples' efforts away from complaining about the horrible speed nerf.

Well played!

Edit for constructive content: Perhaps instead of having everyone complain about the change, why doesn't everyone just post the number accounts they'll be letting lapse without renewing thanks to this change.

I've already got one I've written off.

Ok great. Now make the skill times less that way when you hit the 30-90 day training you dont want to cancel while you train. WOW that would make sense wouldnt it? Nahhh It would remove that TIMESINK wouldnt it.

I have liked CCP and there decisions in the past this is the first one that say HI WERE JUST LIKE ANY OTHER GAME COMPANY THAT IS FULL OF MORONS! Evil or Very Mad

Man you guys sure are piling on the ****ty changes lately. So after next patch it'll cost me 500-600m per GTC, I can't let accounts dark train, and half the ships I enjoy flying will be pulse apoc food. Fantastic.

I don't particularly mind this change. (I do know a person who buys "cheap" characters and just trains up the "pesky lvl5 skills" with account breaks, re-selling the character as a "fully-trained mothership pilot" - he makes quite some ISK with that. I don't think it's a good feature.)

I do have two problems with this change, though.

The first one is that there is basically no warning at all that your game time is about to expire. From one day to the next, it goes "account expired." It would be highly annoying to find out that you weren't training your skill for 1-2 days because you didn't log in yesterday. Please add a reminder "your game time is running out in 7 days" or so when you log in.

The other is that you will lose more players that way. I know quite a few people who were in an "eve low" and let their accounts expire. They set up a long skill, and at some point they thought "oh, my skill's done, let's check back", reactivating their accounts. "EVE lows" are very common, they come and go, and this was one way to "bridge" them.

But as I said, I personally do not mind the change. Just PLEASE tell me in advance when my account is about to expire. ;-)

Its a really big problem worth prioritizing then?

Why oh why do CCP consistently deal with non existent problems ahead of issues which really do affect players daily.

CCp with the crashing economy in iceland you should be fine since you rely on other countries economies, even after you raise the subscription fee by GTC, effectively making euro payers pay 4 times as much as icelanders and americans twice as much. Now you remove the one thing that makes it possible for me to keep 5 accounts training. This is really going to mess you up more than help you out. As the people who let their accounts lapse while training are the ones who pay for multiple fees.

In conclusion
