This is the news we’ve all been waiting for! That whale of a ship, the Orca, will hit Singularity soon, and CCP Chronotis has written a dev blog on this long-awaited, upcoming addition to the game.

Chronotis’ blog includes not only extensive details about the Orca, but a screenshot as well. You can read all about it by pointing your browser here.

Sounds really great!!

One question, can you put all ships into the maintanence bay, or only barges/industrials like the rorq?

Can't wait for this to come Very Happy

Will the bpo be available across EVE or in only the ORE stations?

This sounds pretty damn awesome.

I assume we can put everything up to battleships into the ship maint. bay, right?

I think 90k m3 might be a bit low for a "mini"-freighter. I think you should be able to push it higher without having to nerf the thing completely.

How fast is this thing going to be compared to a freighter?

Given the explicit statement:
Quote:
The Orca is a collaboration between Outer Ring Excavations and Deep Core Mining Inc.
I would expect that you could pick up the BPO in stations owned by either corp.

I think this ship might replace my rhea as my mobile base for missionrunning.

A ship that can carry a commandship, salvage ship, can tractor from far out, and has enough room for ammo and loot, and a few bpos for ammo. Awesome. Cool

correct, both corporations will sell the blueprint from their stations. The skill will be sold at the school corps in the main empires.

it is unrestricted because we wanted to ease the issue of transporting rigged ships around. This is a change from the rorqual however was made for different reasons. We may well review the rorqual again and revamp its role in the future to remove that restriction but no promises.

It goes a little slower and a little less agile than a battleship.

The capacity could go up and will not rule that out yet.

I'll have a look when I'm on Sisi, but it feels a bit overdesigned from the stats - like its trying to do too many things at once, but to be balanced it can't do all of them well.

Edit: To explain further,

-A mini-freighter should be able to hold a giant freight container/max courier contract without much fiddling
-A highsec ship maintenance vessel should be able to carry around rigged battleships, especially with t2 around
-A 400m isk semi-capital ship should be able to fit a decent shield tank, for potential lowsec ops

An Orca is supposed to do most of these things, but it'd be a bit crazy to have it do everything. Everyone would have or want one. A 120k m3 minifreighter with a strong tank that can move all my stuff? Who'd say no?

Edited Edit: Also also, all those things aside, looks like an excellent ship if you work out the kinks. Also, buff the rorqual. Smile

I think I officially have a goal now ^_^

It still would have been nice if these features had been split up between multiple specialized ships rather then one massive multi-function sub-capital, but this is still pretty cool.

With the introduction of the Rorqual last year Oveur immediately pointed out the remaining glaring gap in the industrial ship line and commanded us to fill it.

Someone do us a favour and let Oveur know we miss him and are feeling like neglected mistresses and he should pop by and tell us he loves us at least once in a while.

I always liked his development ideas, and the orca looks like it fills a needed gap.

I am not sure about this, but I read from the dev blog that this ship is basically giving the same type of bonus as the Rorqual, just a bit less, without the need of deploying it with an industrial core? Doesn't make this the Rorqual in its current state a bit useless in the first place in comparison (if you don't need the ore compression feature in the first place due to having a station in the same system and such?

Going to be imensely usefull for any decent missionrunning-corp, ability to tractor in wreaks from 70km will be exelent, eventhough salveging will require more ships to be present

Mining barge 5 is gona suck though D:

Looks great for a small agile industrial corp, but why does it need Mining Barge 5? It is not a mining ship, but has great hauling capabilities. Why not make it Transport ships 4 or 5 instead?

The way I see it, is that there is no reason the pilot of this ship need good mining skills, but rather hauling and Leadership skills to support the corp.

Anyone with Barge 5 should be out mining, not in a support ship Wink

What an amazing ship, other then i think the cargohold is alittle small, its perfect.

Can wait to fly one of these bad boys.

Thanks CCP.

Its ORE ship...logic says barge 5 even though I agree transport 4 or 5 sounds more relative.

200k cargo hold (at lvl5, with rigs/modules) would be nicer. Anyway, it's an uber ship!

Getting on to SISI is a bit of an issue for some (especially at work) <grin>.

Would it be possible to post some of the other attributes here, I'm wondering how big this whale is when it's packaged for example?

Also knowing what Component BP's are required might help some of us decide if we want to invest in them (and allow those with them to jack up the prices of course)

Thanks in advance, and WOW! I love that ship! - Dunedon

well i hope it does since in the dev blog it says...

For example, when out on mining ops your haulers (if you still need them with the Orca present) can take from here instead of scooping jet cans.

But i'm not getting my hopes up. Just can't imagine a reason for having a 30k cargohold otherwise though since if you still need haulers they'll just take it straight from the corp hanger. Neutral
