Mentlegen...................

Many months ago me and a buddy, bored out of our highsec carebear minds, looked into moon mining. We found out, not too surprisingly, that bigger alliances have bigger portions of lowsec charted, or at least most, if not all of the good moon locations listed.

So we had the idea, what if we were to make the info public, would that change anything? We had no idea, but with CCP doing nada to improve lowsec, and missiongrinding in highsec still being profitable enough to support absolutely everything we need, it wouldn't really be that big of a difference which form of grind we did.

So we set out to map lowsec, or at least the metals of it, since the most common gasses are found everywhere and would only clutter the lists, so whenever we were bored with missionrunning, we'd go scan moons.

Today we finished scanning all of 0.1 - 0.3 lowsec. While we haven't made the maps yet (Can't call it a moon map if there aren't visual maps with it), the scan-results should at least prove interesting to some people, so if someone who's interested in these things haven't noticed these on eve-files, we might as well throw them out here.

The Moon Map Project

I know it's in goddamn textfiles that look primitive, nitpick all you want, it's just how it ended up.

A small guide to what is what would probably be an idea:

The most interesting file to the bigger and R64 hungry alliances will probably be The Fort Knox List.

The Regional Moonmineral Overview is a list of what moonminerals are in the assorted lowsec regions.

The Regional System Overview is a list of what systems in lowsec hold which moon minerals.

The files called "Moon Map Overview" are the checked surveys for each assorted region. <-- Use these when looking up the specific locations of minerals.

The files called "Moon Map Project" are the old, raw, often flawed files, from before we started checking all our info, which we did near the end, they're mostly there for nostaltic reasons.

....and no, we're not doing 0.0
-----------------------------------------------------------

We one mad a character people could donate thankyou iskies to, we were planning on just trying PvP and dying alot, but for some reason, the extra ISK just makes us more lazy and carebear'ish.
Since we don't like taking peoples cash and doing nothing with it, we removed this.

The donated ISK (some 190M) has been donated to Eve University (Ivy League)(specificly, the person listed as the alliance diplomatic contact in their alliance-description), since they were the "best good cause" we could think of.
This also includes any isk sent after
Also apologies for taking so long making the actual maps. Rl, christmas, the flu and learning how to use a freewareprogram called GIMP for it is a timestealing combi.

Edit2: AAAAAAAARGHHHH I'm going insane.
For some strange reason, ever since the moon map project finished, I've had absolutely zero interest in anything related to moons. For some reason, moons make my mind go into some form of reject-based partial coma, conjuring me into doing anything else I can think of. So making maps of this, at least from my end, is on hold for now, and I'm the only person from the project who lacks a life enough to have enough time to spare for it.

It's public info, we don't have a patent on it or anything, so obviously anyone who wants to use the info to make any form of maps, database etc is free to do so. It'll probably be months before I get to look at it again.
Sorry Sad

I heard about this project a few weeks ago. I've utilized it already to check out moons that I wanted. I'd like to see all of low sec get done tbh and once I get my isk flowing back in again, I plan to donate.

Kudos to Sleyn and friends for putting this list together. I would hope some ****ed off alliance guy would grab his alliance's lists and send them to you to save you some time and maybe get you some juicy 0.0 maps (obviously with the use of an alt) GL guys in the future

Most bigger 0.0 alliances have internal databases with mineral composition of all their moons in it. Some even with markers for what moons are in use and what are not. However if you mean public data, then no, it's not public. Older databases have however almost all 0.0 regions covered, bcos when alliance goes into offensive probe alts often scan all the moons in target region as attacking alliance needs to know what towers make the opponent most isk so they could knock em over before others.

Generally, all 0.0 alliances have the maps of the regions they own. If they want to take more R64 moons/fight an enemy, it's SOP to scan the moons the enemy has mining POS on, and only them, to save time. There's little point scanning everything, as whovever you're targeting is unlikely to leave a dyspro/prom moon unexploited anyway.

This data is generally considered an alliance secret for obvious military purposes, so I doubt you'll have much succes there.

I know how boring moon surveying can be. So I do want to extend my thanks and make a donation when I get back from work.

a very excellent collection of data, i had been working on the same thing by myself slowly and had only covered 1 reagion, so i'm really glad i don't have to scan more low sec stuff, what would be really nice is to get 0.0 moon info Very Happy

Have to say I kind of agree with this. My corp just got done compiling a map of locations for a possible POS setup and were going to go about scanning the moons this weekend. Now all our work is done for us, and we have nothing to do Sad.

Nice work. This is very appealing to the anarchist in me. Imagine you did start to do this for significant portions of 0.0, you might have quite an effect on alliance warfare.

There may well be a few retired alliance intelligence operatives out there.

Information wants to be free.

What really concerns me is that there are so many high-end moons (in empire low-sec) close to BoB space.... coincidence? me thinks not.. (Yes, I am jealous :P)

Very impressive. I can see this going very far in terms of tech and ease of access (eventual database upgrade to something like the Ore Map and maybe even something like DOTLAN, tracking which moons have towers and which are "free").

I'm sure this will make some people happy, and others very ticked, their 'oh so secret' out of the way isk maker in trouble Twisted Evil.

Great job!
The only stuff that I could contribute is old ASCN moon data, which I KNOW is purposefully wrong, listing the locations of most R64 moons wrongly. Blame the biggest and most useless carebears of all time, STK Scientific, for that.

0.0 is perfectly balanced. There are worse regions, and better regions. If you want one of the best regions - go and take it Smile

On behalf of Eve University, let me thank you for your generous donation. With recent wars, we were beginning to wonder if we were doing something wrong, but the subsequent donations and good will we've received have bolstered and boosted the morale among both instructors and new students.

This is an amazing project, and very useful. Congratulations on a job well done from what I can only assume was a time consuming project to start with.

Again, thank you, and I'll see what other sort of recognition we can get you.
