Fanfest 2018 – Call For Player Presenters And Player Swag!

2018-02-08 - By CCP Falcon

If you'd like to discuss this dev blog, you can do so in the comments thread over on the EVE Online Forums!

The time for Fanfest cometh!

With only 62 days until Fanfest 2018 kicks off, we’re looking to start the process of calling for player presenters to come on stage in Iceland as part of the Fanfest presenter line-up.

For 2018, the celebration of the Fifteenth Anniversary of EVE Online, we’ve got a lot of cool plans, and we want you guys, the community – the lifeblood of New Eden – to be closer to the action than ever before.

After a solid Fanfest last year, and a record breaking attendance for EVE Vegas in October, we’re looking to raise the bar once again.

The whole Fanfest team is super excited to be working on Fanfest again, and here’s how you can get involved!

What Are We Looking For?

We’re looking for players who’re comfortable presenting in front of a Fanfest audience and who have something interesting or fun to talk about. These players will of course need to be fine with committing to putting together a presentation or hosting a roundtable live at Fanfest 2018.

We’re looking at filling 30-minute slots in the schedule. This typically means you’ll need to put together a 20-25-minute presentation or roundtable with 5-10 minutes for room handover to the next presenter and audience at the end.

We need to be super strict on timing given the amount of content we’d like to get into the schedule, so be sure you can adhere to this time frame!

Alongside the official CCP schedule and program for Fanfest, there are a lot of player run events that occur every year as part of the greater Fanfest experience. If you’re hosting a party, get together, karaoke night or any other event that you think players and devs alike would enjoy, you can feel free to get in touch with us and we may be able to assist in making sure that your event has more visibility to attract a larger audience.

The only requirements for this type of assistance are that the event is open to everyone, you’re already planning on coming to EVE Fanfest and are looking to host an event during Fanfest, as CCP will not be supplementing airfare or passes for these efforts. Feel free to send us a mail and see if we can help you out!

How Can You Be Part Of The Fanfest Lineup?

If you’re interested in being a part of the Fanfest 2018 lineup, you can send an email to share@eveonline.com with a subject containing the words “Fanfest Player Presentation”.

You’ll need to include the following information:

  • Real name and age
  • In game name
  • Desired length of presentation
  • Topic
  • Summary of content
  • A little about yourself, and any other information you feel is relevant
  • Details on past Fanfest/Vegas presentations if you’ve given them

We’re looking for any content that you think would be interesting and fun for EVE players to share in. The deadline for submitting your proposal for a presentation or roundtable is March 1st, 2018.

After this we’ll start locking down the schedule and will need a full commitment from you to be a part of the line-up. This is when we’ll contact those who we’d love to be part of the schedule!

For external events you can inform us as soon as you have something concrete, preferably by the end of February.

Right now, we’re not going to commit to a specific number of speaker slots or events as there’s always room for more high-quality content from our players. Our goal is the same as every year - to build a Fanfest program with a balanced and interesting program for all attendees.

We Also Want Your Swag!

After great success (read: lack of penis related/shaped paraphernalia) with the amount of content that was submitted to be included in the EVE Vegas 2017 Welcome Bags, we’d like to do this again for Fanfest 2018.

This lets alliance and corporations spread their brand, give recruitment messages (yeah, we’re looking at you, Dreddit), and give back to the community.

Alliances and Corporations can pitch in stickers, posters, merchandise, patches, pins, whatever you guys want (within reason!), to raise awareness of your alliance.

If you’d like to drop items like this into the welcome pack, all you need to do is bring them to Fanfest 2018 and catch up with our volunteers on site before we prepare the welcome packs.

We’ll be preparing 1200 welcome packs for EVE Fanfest this year, so that’s the number to keep in mind, if for instance, you want to put one sticker or one pin in every welcome pack.

To get in touch with our volunteers and organize including your stuff in the welcome pack, you can join the EVE Event volunteers discord by clicking this link.

You can contact GreyGal, or any of the other volunteers to work on getting your stuff included in the Fanfest 2018 welcome pack.

Please be aware that we'll need you to drop off your Swag at Harpa by the end of Monday, April 9th in order for us to be able to include it in the welcome pack.

Please be aware that CCP reserves the right to decline anything that may be deemed offensive or otherwise inappropriate for inclusion in the Fanfest welcome pack.

Give Us Your Feedback!

Fanfest might be hosted by CCP, but it's all about the community. We want Fanfest to be the best experience it possibly can be, so we’re looking for feedback on previous events.

If you’ve been an attendee and you’ve felt like there’s something you’ve particularly enjoyed, disliked or felt was missing from Fanfest, then now is your time to speak up and let us know.

Leave us some comments in the comments thread for this Dev Blog and we’ll see what we can do to make Fanfest even more awesome.

Same as every year, you can also tweet at me if you want to suggest cool things for Fanfest, or have memories and great photos and videos to share.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!
