sneak peaks part ii - cosmos
reported by CCP Oveur | 2005.05.11 15:20:10
Many of you are seeing this weird name for the first time, which is not surprising since it has only been dropped a couple of times outside CCP. COSMOS is a long-term project inside CCP, which follows the following statement:

COSMOS redefines the landscape of EVE by populating space, a Constellation will be the focal point of each Region, where we create a backstory, utilizing agents, complexes, npc's, environments and mini-professions.

This probably doesn't tell you much, but that is what this blog is about. Also note that "populating" for us means as much getting people into 0.0 (since it's unpopulated) as much as it means us putting the stuff mentioned into the universe in general. In the next patch, you will see the first steps of the COSMOS project enter Tranquility, where we start with simple aspects of the concept such as agent encounters and mini-professions.

The aim here is to create a constellation which is worth something in each region, which is different and has it's unique angle. As such this can be as much solo as it is group content, which way it leans really depends on the location of the COSMOS constellation. Therefore, a 0.0 constellation will be less focused on agents (in many cases not at all) and more on mini-professions, Complexes and environments, while in higher security you can expect a bigger focus on agents and mini-professions.

Agent Encounters & NPC's

The agent encounter is a location where you can find an agent in space. We call them pigs in space for some weird reason. This agent differs from regular station agents by being in a space ship and what missions he gives you. Most common are do-once sequential missions, but they occasionally offer a predefined set of missions or simply offer a service. You do not work for these agents as you would work for your regular agent in a station but the best part is, you can try to shoot these! I said try.

NPC's! You will see different flavors of NPC's in and around these COSMOS constellations, they are not that different though. They have some tweaks and mostly carry specific loot for that constellation and aren't really the focus of the COSMOS project. However I would expect to see some big bosses within them. An example would be a COSMOS constellation within the Curse region would most likely have an Angel Dreadnought or five to greet anyone that wants to say hello to their little friends.

Mini-professions

Mini-professions are really simple gameplay elements, at first much of it will be quite familiar functionality applied in a different way, but further down the line, when we see how these pan out, we will develop more specific functionality for new professions. As the name clearly states, these are not full professions and our goal is to provide different angles in general within the EVE universe but more specifically within COSMOS constellations.

As an example of a mini-profession, we can take Archeology where you go to specific locations and search for various remains, try to combine them via scraps of schematics you find resulting in various stuff coming out of it - everything from skills to ships really. Such a profession usually consists of some skills to learn it with modules and special ships to utilize it.

You will see a couple utilized within the first COSMOS Constellations. They are however not limited to those, in the future they will span a number of constellations, can be found within different levels of Complexes, new environments or even simple asteroid belts.

You should also realize that even though a mini-profession is learned by a single person, the high end aspects of them promote grouping and interaction and in most cases, simply not possible without good player connections. "Stuff" comes from so many different places and activities, like I'm the dude who supplies smurgle blaster cogs and you're the guy with smurgle blaster sprockets so we work a deal where we trade them or the cogs could come from some sort of "mining" activity and the sprockets from a more "fighting" activity so it's better to specialize.

New environments & Complexes

New environments aren't really a COSMOS feature and the first COSMOS constellations will not feature new environments. However they will be heavily utilized within them in the future, many times featuring an environment specific to that constellation. As such you can think of environments in 3 ways; The COSMOS specific ones, mostly located within and around a COSMOS Constellation, the regionally based ones, native to a sector of the space and the generic ones which are pretty much all over the universe. This creates a healthy mixture of environments to create quite interesting PVP and financial opportunities.

The future of real new environments is that they have a tactical, strategic and financial aspect to it. Tactical in the sense that it can directly damage you, neutralize any aspects of your ships or stats or beef up other stats. An environment might therefore be better for one race or type of ship loadout while another would be at a disadvantage if doing combat there.

Strategic in the way that you can have specialized support ships or structures which utilize (and require) the characteristics of these environments either directly around them, apply it to their gang, use on a remote gang, as an area of effect (remote or local) or as a system wide effect (or constellation for that matter).

Financial benefits can be the contents of the environment or benefits of having some kind of structure or base within them which harvests or utilizes the environment for any specific purpose. As such it could be a Dark Nebula, which you need to be able to place a Khanid Shipyard (Since they are the Dark Amarr), manufacturing a special type of ship or you could place a structure there which converts the hydrogen into fuel for your starbases. It could also have other nifty localized or system wide effects. The financial benefits all rely on System Sovereignty, so you have to own the system to utilize this part.

These aspects are the cores of the 0.0 COSMOS constellations, which focus heavily on environments. They will bring new angles to PVP, creating beneficial environments for certain races or ship loadouts, creating a second line in combat with strategic supports and giving system sovereignty a considerable boost.

Complexes are of course a part of COSMOS. They will not necessarily be situated within deadspace so they might be gateless or simply within new environments. We continue to create complexes all over the universe, but there will be specific Complexes to almost all of the COSMOS constellations.

Summing it up

Other additions on the drawing board are roaming agents which only have a specific chance of appearing in certain areas. We're also looking at "escalating paths" which is where you do a mission, finish a complex or simply kill some NPC in a belt and he drops a bookmark for you. This leads you to a new location, which is tougher, where you have a less chance of getting the bookmark for the next location, which is tougher and has less ... well, you get the point. With this we set a seed while playing solo which then escalates to group play very fast, like a SIKRIT Sansha Research Complex, which is certainly a group effort. These would likely be based out of or around a COSMOS constellation.

COSMOS will pan out over years to come. We will get better and faster at creating them at the same time getting more and functionality to put in them. COSMOS is a vital part of creating a landscape on those 5000 systems that are in there, creating interesting locations to explore - and control in the case of 0.0 space. Some may have gotten the notion that we are stopping solo content, which couldn't be further from the truth. There will always be solo content available in EVE, everybody needs something to do when few corp members are online. But the fact remains, our main focus is as ever, to create a massively multiplayer online game, not a massively singleplayer online game. This project may at first seem very solo oriented, but if you read carefully, you will see that this is not the case nor the goal of the project.

Well, that pretty much sums up one of the things in the upcoming content patch. I went a bit into details of what will be part of COSMOS in the near future and some ideas just to fully deliver the COSMOS project concept, which I thought was important since we will drop that name more often in the future.

Over years to come... Cant wait for the first part of it tho.
Baldigan Joackim on 12 May 2005
actually my main problem is the alliance who "claim" majority of the 0.0. With 30 ppl in my corp i want to be able to claim 1 system or a tiny zone and live here with my corp. I don't want to have all the space control by biiig alliance, so many space. Do you know how many 0.0 system are worthless actually ? I get BETTER ORE (jaspet, omber and hemorphite) in a whole constellation in 0.1. Majority of 0.0 space where i am have NO ore with isogen, no better or than jaspet. Juste some have crokite & bistot & dark ochre. But this little number of system are controler by alliance. So you see the point ?? a lot of 0.0 system where no body whant to live, cause it's better in 0.1 ... bad for me

Claiming large terriatory will be less effective after the NWO. It should be very possible to claim a system or two with a 30 or 40 man corp. Youll see

That sounds pretty good, Oveur :)

Sounds intriguing, the part about more skills is kinda daunting though...so much to do. The archeology mc doofer sounds pretty intresting, one of my main qualm with cosmos is that..as always...other aspects of the game could do with a bit of lub. It would be nice to see research being something more than manu/prod efficiency and it would be nice to use all my science skills on something other than the joke which is the tech 2 lottery. Wouldn't be so bad if we got a 5 run BPC never mind a BPO. Great idea, but don't run before you can walk, other areas of the game could do with some attention before all these grand plans such as cosmos and the NWO

This definitely seems to be a well thought out project, with plenty of scope of fitting into and expanding current content in ways that many people should love. On their own, complexes are a bit of a disappointment in some cases. I have found the odd really good complex (the 7 tier one near Outuni is a point in case - don't remember the exact system name) but combined with plenty of other elements to explore, it should make everything a lot more fun. I'm sure that everyone has thought at some time "this universe is so huge, but there's almost nothing in it" so a project of this type should go a long way to changing that attitude. It'll be less "bah I have to fly 5 jumps for something good" and more "will I have the time to do it all??". Well hopefully anyway :D
Winterblink on 12 May 2005
Simply put, this is a brilliant set of content and additions to EVE that distinguish this game just that much more from the rest. I can't wait.

Lacero Callrisian on 12 May 2005
Archeology sounds very interesting, Time based, so you start a project in a system and it takes a week or so to finish? Or adventure based? You might have to fly through electric clouds or fight off rogue drones to get to the end. Maybe some support ships shielding and fighting for a science fitted ship which has to be guided through a series of deadspace areas? I bet it'll be great, good luck. And I'm also looking forward to the research system changes :)

Clipped Wings on 12 May 2005
It's mentioned several times that Sovereignity will play a large part, that you will need to claim/own the area...How exactly will that be possible in NPC-claimed regions? Or is this solely for deep 0.0 space people? Otherwise, looks interesting. I can already foresee the immense goldrush when every man and his dog in a pod will venture into the great unknown...and get ganked along the way ;) I guess I'm just worried it'll be focused on the large, unclaimed 0.0 areas of EVE...whereas, IMO, it's the lesser attractive parts of 0.0 that needs a boost. But ohwell. Be interesting to see how it pans out.

hopefully empire systems get their attention on this. mainly low sec regions would be nice to see some good changes with this. So wheres the constellation for us that gives Minmatar Ships an advantage? ;)
qapchure on 12 May 2005
cool
John McCreedy on 12 May 2005
This is a huge step in the right direction but I'd like to see NPC stations both suppyling and needing different items based upon the constellation they're in. This would put a lot more emphasis on trading and add more thought (and profit) to trading but also a more realistic feel. This coupled with the removal of the highways would mean the further away you trade something, the greater the profit. All in all though, good changes. Finally, can we have an e.t.a. on enviroments since they where supposed to be launched with Exedous?
Dirtball on 12 May 2005
Where are the positives involved? I want a pre exodus EVE without isk, everyone trades in minerals and no npc agents.

nice ideas, but i won't keep my hopes up, might be a letdown :(. Better to anticipate less and be glad when it comes than anticipate much and get dissapointed ... 0.0 space, never really been out there for extended periods, everytime i've been there so far i never came back, so its not something i like atm, alliances shooting me, pirates shooting me, kitchen sink shooting me (?). Just simply pointless to go out there imo till alliances can really exert control over a region and make it "neutral" ground for neutrals(now if alts would go out the window ;o) )

Castor, Exodus, Kali, Now Cosmos really beginning to sound like flavor of the month. Hope it won't be left as unfinished as Castor and Exodus were. :(
Vel Kyri on 13 May 2005
Kira - he said cosmos is a feature set that will be expanding over time - it will be included in the next few major paches etc... its not apparently the same as a content patch (eg shiva, kali etc)
Law Enforcer on 13 May 2005
that is cool with the boss fights, but with new complexes will there be 11/10 for the dreadnoughts?

hum, I'm septic :| In short, it's adding more stuff in all the empty space ? Will look forward on concrete results on allday life.. err playing :)
Zoidberg ENB on 13 May 2005
This is obviously going to be a long project but the results will be really cool. I'd love to be able to see EVE 1.5-2 years from now.
RShade on 13 May 2005
hmm .. few of those ideas remind me of a few things in Earth & Beyond worked.. agents/npc's in space, "mini-professions" which kind of sound like the missions/quests in EnB, etc. Not really bad ideas actually.. but does sound like would give eve a little more diversity and make it more "alive", like how space actually would be. Il be keepin an eye on these as well like many other players, sounds intersting.
Queen B on 13 May 2005
*me subscribe for "years"*
Kythoma on 13 May 2005
nice ... ... but i think, this preview is coming coming now for best moment. there are hot discussions out for the 'missile overhaul' and 'NWO'. this problem isn't fixed, and also, there are many bugs in the game (including several server breaksdowns since last patch). PLEASE fix first all this and then give us new bigger stuff in this game!

Good lord, I just managed to join a small corp in 0.0. Its gunna take me years to work my way through all the parts of this game! =P
Serdalis on 13 May 2005
This game needs bug fixes more then content addons theres still bugs like server brakes, STOCK MARKET (do it or die eve crew), and heaps more before mor advanced things (that will bring many more bugs) can go in
Shadow Lightbringer on 13 May 2005
There's no reason new content and bug fixes can't co-mingle. If EVE didn't continue to mature, grow, and change I probably would get bored with it. CCP needs to survive as well, and that means doing things to keep this game interesting. That said, these changes look awesome. Can't wait to start to see them. :)
Anabolicor on 13 May 2005
All nice and well. BUT WHY WE STILL GOT NO CORPTAXES?????? I dunno a lot about programming but compared to your planned changes in eve corptaxes seem like a warmup exercise to that !

It all sounds great. But if I were feeling negative, I'd say "Great, new toys for the people who control the regions of 0.0 that this stuff gets placed in."

xaja on 13 May 2005
How did you ever decide to make a space game and then completely forgot to put ANY aliens in it? Mini professions sounds just way too commerce oriented... is that all there is? And even after over 2 years of massaging the game, you've never yet thought of aliens? Or do you have it planned and just want to surprise us with their appearance? Well, I'm all blue in the face cause I'm still holding my breath for those system wide asteroid belts promised long ago..
OFFT on 13 May 2005
Some grand ideas ...very nice. Please work on group skills and make ganging for missions worth while....like spread the Lp across the gang. Better still make missions which force ganging ..no gang no mission. My dream is to have System Invasion....mean what it says. A pre warned system invasion. So all players in system are at threat ..Women and children can hide (no offense old saying) and the warriors can scramble to fight for the cause.Almost a mini event but npc driven with gang spread LP. Any ways a future to look forward to with grouping encouraged in a way to seem un offorced and later second nature :)
Juniper on 13 May 2005
Given that you have only implemented roughly 50% of what was promised with Exodus, I struggle to get too excited by any of this. And also, it sounds like most of it will happen in 0.0, where the majority are unable to go because of the 13 year old gankers who play 23/7 on Mum's credit card. If it happens, great - I just won't be holding my breath.

Lady Gwynneth on 14 May 2005
Again. I fear that all these new features will also be claimed by people who already "own" 0.0. Paying 25 Mio for 0.0 a week is "really nice" but IMHO stinks. Please more elements of E&B. - 3D avatar, which can walk in station - more formation flight options, V-form, block etc ... - animated ship damage in space and in station - storyline agents per race or such, that give you useful ship enhancements when doing their storyline missions. Why not a raven, that is better than another one, since you got some kind of hull upgrade better reactor/shields by doing storyline missions - customizeable avatars - customizeable ships, its boaring that every ship looks exactly the same. - space monsters instead of simple NPC ships. etc E&B had some nice game elements. An Arena for PvP. PvP and non PvP areas ... Better designed servers, that dynamically restructurize them, if many people are in one area to get a better performance and less lag. Then you wouldnt change the game mechanic so much to drive people to 0.0. Since there are mainly technical reasons why u want us to go to there. One big question: if you really want to make this game go away from kind of single player .. then u must face the fact, that certain reagions will be overcrowded like now ... I think a redesign of servers would be necessary more than many fancy additions, cause a big feature-rich laggy game is something nobody really needs. And PvP with much lag doesnt do fun as well same with missions ... !
Maximus RoNN on 15 May 2005
More and More content .. I have loved everything added to EVE .. But I am from Australia and I need a local server and steady connection first to enjoy this. Move more emphasis on improving this first please.
Russo on 15 May 2005
pvp and non pvp areas? are you smoking crack? i wont even begin to cover why thats a horrible idea. but youre a care bear period :) also...i submitted the environmental thing to the idea lab...where certain places would give certain benefits or give a disadvantage to one type of ship, or module, or whatever. this would make the environment another weapon to master. :) w00t for me.

Why not just engineer the universe to exist as interconnected "wheels" of systems each of which has 1.0 - 0.5 systems surrounded by 0.4 - 0.0 systems; travel is allowed between 1.0 system in the center of each "wheel"; travel is allowed from center of a wheel to the outer of each wheel; each 0.0 system has multiple paths from center of wheel; rare ores are distributed within 0.0 systems to make each outer ring of each wheel worth living in. The current shape of the universe means there are many (most) 0.0 systems that are worthless of too dangerous to bother with. Sadly if space faring humans were to have access to the technology of EVE it would render most of space worthless where the military/police dare not go leaving the rest of space valuable.
Silent Ronin on 15 May 2005

That really aounds good Jacque, Why not give 0.0 a "Face" of the Main NPC Pirate force in there. If i have a neutral or high Standing to the NPC Fraction i could live there, in a few 0.7-0.3 Systems... Let it be 5-7 Systems where the players a guarded by some Angel or Serpentis or other NPC pirates. About the new envirement... Dual Sun Systems , anyone?

Akyr on 16 May 2005
how to populate? ... that's the question. ccp wants us to go to 0.0, and the aliances don't want do give up some space to let us in. try to go into 0.0 in the current days. if u are not blown up by 'security forces' at the gates, u will, when enter deep space. if u are not well knowen by someone in those alianances/corps, they think, u are a spice and then u will blown up. think, it's an circle with no starting and no end .....

Good idea, but you need do more work on server stabiliy and balancing. AFTER that, it could be good to put more and more ships and stuff or cosmos to eve. If you have an good foundation, you can build on it. Without that you will fail with such gread projects.

--------------------------------------------- As a primarilly solo player I find this all sort of silly and overly complicated. -------------------------------------------- Then you're playing the wrong game mate, read the blog again. --------------------------------------------- ok.new content for all the pvpers in 0.0....WHAT ABOUT US SINGLE PLAYER,NON PIRATE PEOPLE IN SAFE SPACE THAT MAKE UP 2/3 OF THIS GAME. These changes are NOT going to be ONLY in 0.0
Kuolematon on 18 May 2005
Hmm, I might even return from WoW to see this but not making single player content, ffs. I don't wanna share my loot and reward with stupid and mindless people who I dislike. Noway! I earn 'em all and I will keep 'em all!

Is there anyone out there that thinks Exodus just needs to be redefined before CCP starts working on big projects like this? The Exodus was supposed to be people heading out to 0.0, setting up POS's and Claiming small areas of space for thier corp. I think CCP should finish working on this issue, making it easier to fuel POS with releasing freighters, easier to seige POS by releasing dreadnaughts. Ect, ect.
Demangel on 18 May 2005
I think this ate my post, I'll just revise what i said, and say: I love every bit of this blog, and I really hope CCP is finaly going to make the game into what caught my attention in the first place. Surely plenty of this is just hype and idea tossing, but overal the direction is a good one. To put it another way, for a few minutes I really wondered: "Hey did someone get fired? Did CCP rehire one of the orriginal masterminds who invented all the backstory? Or did the Devs finaly get let off thier leashes (Ie maybe the light at the end of the tunnel of major game balancing problems has been seen?) to at last start adding the content that was advertized back before and durring beta that had me and so many more like me so deeply hooked and obsessed?"
SteamViper on 19 May 2005
Just bring in a tax.The longer you stay in a high system the more your tax goes up.Everyone must have a station address where you pay your tax.Base payments on ability to pay for noobs. Hey presto big Exodus
N Falcon on 20 May 2005
All these things sound nice, yet I see nothing about the major crime in the eve game now and that is ore and rat loot thieves. I would love to see something along the line as a option to flag person you catch stealing and then bounty hunters having say 60 minutes to find and destroy the ship without Concord steping in. Also have the gates and stations bar flagged criminals from accessing them for a period of 60 minutes. Now granted to prevent misuse you could say only allow flagging the thief if you had can open they took out of and you had to issue the crimal flagging before they warped away. Just a couple of ideas here.
Fi T'Zeh on 20 May 2005
teamwork ftw. Really looking forward to this. Its nice to see that there is a long term plan. But yes, lets also have some filling in of cracks in the plaster before we start decorating the next room.
Mirina Harinaz on 20 May 2005
It sounds great but... CCP wants to populate 0.0...lol ain't gonna happen, Why? There's too few gates leading into 0.0 which makes it easy to gatecamp and keep people away. Everyone knows this and thus keeps themselves in empire space. It isn't very attractive to risk your butt in 0.0 even if you manage to sneak out. The alliances controls the good systems with the rare ores so don't eve think about mining. Rat hunting might be attactive but again the "choke" points is the main problem. And yes I'm a whiner when it comes to access to 0.0, because you need to be apart of an alliance to have access and most of the alliance have rather harsh requirements for joining in. It's too easy to claim territory because of the few gates. It's the "populating" and access to 0.0 which really interrest me the rest is a bonus. Possible ways to be able to get 0.0 more populated. - Make some safe havens, a few npc neutrals which doesn't belong to any factions. Their base, ship, station, outpost is indestructable and non conquerable. The services these guys provide should however be very limited. Could be profession oriented like if the npc is a miner you can get refining done there, if he's a scientist research, a trader who buys stuff, you get the point. No corps might put up an office there. This safe haven is well guarded so no hostile act is allowed close to the istallation without getting yourself into deep trouble this prevents camping outside.
Maya Bianere on 20 May 2005
-Open more gates make the territory harder to claim this will demand more efforts for the alliance to keep their territory big without people in it and most of all harder to keep the explorers in empire space. -Most of the systems in 0.0 is more or less worthless except that they have tough rats. Increase the numbers of good system make them more spread which makes it more difficult to control. Not asking for a monster inrease but at least an increase. -Regarding the POS adding the factory module asap. This will keep more people out in 0.0 since they don't have to travel into empire space all the time. Boooooring and very dangerous because of the campers. -More POS related skills which actually makes the POS more interresting to have. -A more varied module offers. like a bigber version of Corp Hangar array with 500k m3 space instead of the one with 200k, sure you can put a bunch of the smaller ones but at least this should be an option. -The waste when refining is far too great to even consider mining less rare ore. Do something with it and it might encourage people to mine in 0.0. -Make some changes to the crystals regarding it weight. 50m3!!! you can't have the other types if you want to change with you without filling your bay. You can always put it in a can, but if you've to run you might loose them if you get panic. -Perhaps some random mini events, a sudden blossom in rare minerals, alien attacks, debris with rare equipment, etc.. If CCP at least consider some of these examples I'm most certain that more people will settle in 0.0. With the current plans for COSMOS it will still be as it is now. Not populated and will only benefit those there allready. Kinda see a shoot yourself in the foot pattern here more for those who has more. :) To those who call people whiners is mostly players who has in both hands, you're not the only one playing this game and stop being so incredible selfish.
JohnStar on 20 May 2005
will finaly the research be fixed because this sucks still now ive been trying to get bpo tech2 since almost 1 years 4 agents and still zero this realy realy sucks.
Maya Bianere on 20 May 2005
I totally agree about the research to get a tech 2 bpo is a hopeless thing. I've accumelated a bunch of rp's but I'm not lucky on playing Lotto and the lottery agents demands that I've to supply them with stuff to get some extra tickets. I've grown tierd doing missions for them without getting any results. There must be another way to make this balanced.
JimmySav on 20 May 2005
Bring it on! Just MAKE SURE its in 0 sec space, or it will just be more incentive for people to stay in empire.... 0 sec is almost totally empty now........
Prakhgoth on 20 May 2005
Its sounds very promising. Please do not #### it up!
Valaris Danios on 21 May 2005
The suggested changes will still keep 0.0 empty. It's only those who lives there now who will benefit from the new changes. The rest of the players are blocked out and kept in empire space as usal. The gates are too easy to control. Open more gates from empire space to 0.0 then the chances for people moving in the will increase and in addtion create more conflicts. Do something with all the worthless systems in 0.0 the wast majority is crap. All the few systems with good resources are controlled. As it's now it's not even worth considering going there. Unless there's no serious changes

'this can be as much solo... as it is group content' Now you got my attention (and wallet)
Liath Evan on 23 May 2005
One thing I would like to point out is that many of us don't exactly have the "top of the line" systems. I really hope that these game updates are made with these systems in mind. One of the major selling points of this game for me was that the requirements weren't *too* high... even though the game does run slow in some situations (insanely slow in nebulae...for example) I'd lvoe to see more for people do do so they don't turn to piracy, or worse, into ore-thieves ;P
Shadow Wonder on 23 May 2005

arutha on 26 May 2005
sorry this wont work . pandering too the carebears again with npc hunts . remove lvl 4 drones dropping alloys that refine rares and get them mining roids again . remove bookmarks too reduce lag and create a enviroment off team play . that is the only way too get people out off empire and back too 0.0 where the real riches off the game should be
Thyro on 27 May 2005
Adding more content into a LAGGY game without prevosily solving the LAG issue the only result will be an even more LAG game where no one will be able to play that new content. Solve the LAG 1st before adding more content. Also make sure that what you describe above aren't just empty promisses that will never be implmented or are implmented partially. But above all SOLVE the damm LAG problem with current server with current content before adding more stuff. Thanks
Demeck on 27 May 2005
all well and good...but whats real reason, and what players are gonna get stuffed with this patch..
Demeck on 27 May 2005
i like solo missions..all that cash all that loot.a challenge and no lag..yummy now what.no solo or less chance at least and buckets of lag in group missions..oohh i fired a torp..no i aint..yes i have its 50km away..wow,arrh im dead..how
Kendra Leigh on 28 May 2005
Make it to where when you jump through a gate, that you get to see what it there before you are completely destroyed, at least some delay would be nice. It is not currently there. Thank You

Add time travel or new dimensions, Oh WOW, how about worm holes.
Kaldreen on 29 May 2005
To describe this game as a 'masterpiece' is woefully understated... Each month, each year this game becomes less of a 'game' and its 'heart' starts to beat louder. I LOVE THIS 'GAME' it is a space opera...a chess match....and grows, sometimes albeit painfully, but it grows. Normally, I would want my 'life' back, but Eve is a wonderful replacement, for now....
Hawk Firestorm on 29 May 2005
If you want to truely get people out into 0 space then you have to adress the problems in both your thinking and design. Agents are EVIL. Orginally they were just for helping out new players get a leg up into game, you strengthened them and in doing so undermined Corps and team play, encouraging players to run endless missions in empire. Rather than beefing up corps and group play, and also boost the ingame social dynamic, as well as making R&D a function of corps not individuals. Complex's are good (for those that have systems that can cope with them, now eve's dragging it's butt along the floor in group activety). It's a complex project, but never loose sight of the fundementals in that complexity. There's still many basic areas that you keep dodging to try save time that are actually costing you alot more by doing so and not going back to the drawing board. The fitting system is just but one. Set out each ships stall exactly and what and how much it can fit, then go balance you just can't balance something so simplistic it allows players to bypass what you do. But overall as many have stated here please sort performance out #1 before you move on, it's the worse I've ever seen the game since beta.
Maabuss on 30 May 2005
I think thath the devs should add "subsystems targeting" to the game, where you can target specific systems and destroy/damage/incapacitate them, but allow the crew to repair them, over time of course, like sheilds :)) you could target individual systems such as : Bridge, Engines, Weapons, Warp Core, ETC. That would make the game more.........interesting in my opinion.
Forsaken Priest on 08 June 2005
All you guys complaining about gate campers...strength in numbers! You think those alliances control those sectors with 5 people? Band together and take it, stop asking CCP to fix it for you and take the hard work away from the alliances. Anyway, I think this looks awesome, and I DO BELIEVE CCP will come through. I've played on different chars since beta, and let me tell you, CCP HAS delivered. Who cares about lag, every game has it, even the all powerful WoW... you try running through Ironforge on a saturday night you'll know what I mean. If Eve is the future... can I go to sleep for awhile and wake up when it gets here???
Hearo on 18 June 2005
I love the idea of making everything better but I'm still having problems with Exodus, like being kicked off the server in the middle of a fight, or lossing my ship in the middle of a warp. If u can make this addition possible and better then Exodus then I'll keep playing EVE. :)
Hawk Firestorm on 28 June 2005
Well again mate there's one very big design problem stopping you achieving this. Mining and manufacture in 0 space. Most mining is done either solo or in small grps, bar pos based ops, the barge is next to useless in 0 space, as it explodes if ya sneeze in it. heh Iso yield and availability is a massive prob, and all lows in general it takes masses of time to mine them, entire belts just for 1 ship often multiple. One very major reason why everyone just mines highs, manufacture up here is seriously borked. Setting out areas where miners can mine, the hunters can go hunt and putting in system wide belts as well as looking VERY hard at the ammount of time required to mine and manufacture compared to other activities. Outposts etc are comming ok great just one small prob, buildin em up ere is gonna be another issue. lol

*MMMMmsss...* COSMOS in Curse space. 0.0 with non-conquerable stations every 2 jumps and jam packed with the most annoying pirate corps in existance. Well, now we know what region the Devs & GMs call home outside of Polaris/Jove.
