Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Edda?
An Edda is a medieval Icelandic work that preserves myth, poetry, heroic stories, and cultural memory. The most famous example is Snorri Sturluson’s Prose Edda, written in the 14th century to explain and preserve Norse mythology and poetic tradition.
Why a physical tome?
Preservation of history is vital. That is how we learn, how we grow as societies and a species. However, human means of preservation have become increasingly less permanent as the ages wear on. We started by preserving information in stone, which can last for millions of years. Then came skin, which lasts for millennia. Then paper, digital media, and finally the cloud, each medium solving certain problems, but introducing others.
Why write it in blood?
That part is purely symbolic. It is not based on historical tradition, as blood is not a very durable writing medium. The blood is blended into a historical ink recipe to make EVE players physically a part of the project.
How are you ensuring this is ethical?
The blood donations were very limited (only a single drop per person), voluntary, and collected by medical professionals. The blood is mixed together, so no DNA can be extracted from it. The vellum will be ethically sourced through traditional suppliers who work with regulated materials and long-established craft methods. The ethical foundation is consent, transparency, safety, and respect for both the people and materials involved.
Can I still donate blood?
No, the blood donations are closed for now, with no current plans to reopen them.
