We'll be doing unscheduled reboots today, Sunday

2006-03-05 - By Svarthol

We will be doing a number of unscheduled reboots today, Sunday to address the memory allocation issue on the servers. This is done to recreate the situations where certain nodes rapidly go into the vegetative state.

To clarify, a memory allocation error breaks pretty much any service which requires memory to perform it's task. Therefore, when a node with your solar system gets into this state, the most weirdest things will start happening. Overview stops working, you can't warp, can't log in, agents start hitting on you and so on.

We're very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but this problem does not manifest itself on our test clusters. We therefore need to do full logging on Tranquility and use other diagnostic tools which will impair performance.
