UK Pricing Provides Sterling Service
Greetings Capsuleers,
I’m CCP Garlakadl, the producer responsible for CCP’s billing and account management team, and I’m writing to share the great new pricing options we have for our UK players.
As announced by CCP Unifex at Fanfest, our UK players will finally be able to pay for their game time and services using pounds sterling (GBP). This change will take effect on May 1st, 2012 with the following pricing options available:

As you can see, we are lowering GBP subscription prices significantly compared to the current equivalent conversion prices, and that is something we’re immensely pleased to be able to do. We have also made PLEX available for GBP, with the pricing as listed below:

Although the UK subscription prices will be lowered, PLEX prices will remain unchanged. However, you’ll now be able to use your native currency to purchase them with no need for conversion. The price of character transfers will be £17 or 2 PLEX.
Payment methods
As always, we strive to provide you with the most flexibility, supporting several popular secure payment systems in our billing system. Currently our UK players can choose from the following payment methods:
- Credit card
- Debit card
- PLEX
- PayPal
- PaySafeCard
We are regularly looking into additional payment systems, so that list may grow over time.
What happens to current subs?
“What about my recurring subscription, will it automatically change to GBP?”
In short, no.
When you enter a recurring subscription you enter a legally binding contract with us allowing us to charge your card a specific amount in a set currency. We cannot decide unilaterally to change that amount or currency. To change a recurring subscription to GBP, you will need to manually enter Account Management, cancel your current subscription, and select a new subscription and payment method. Don’t worry, canceling a subscription does not mean you’re canceling your account; it just means that you don’t want us to continue charging your card as previously agreed upon. All game time, characters and “your stuff” will remain right were you left it.

Please note that when you submit a new payment your account will be additionally billed in that amount, for that additional period of subscription, at that time.
The new payment’s game time will be added to any subscription time you had remaining at the time. No game time would be lost from your account.
What this also means is that after the change UK players cannot use euros to purchase game time, PLEX or services through Account Management. So if you’re not on a recurring subscription your next purchase will be in GBP regardless.

Making a fundamental change like this within an established service can be extremely difficult and we need to be careful when implementing it. But bearing in mind that “a pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty” I see a great opportunity for CCP to make Internet Spaceships more affordable to one of our oldest, most loyal and most established player bases, and I’m sure you’ll prove me right.
